Default Shops that build 383 short blocks

Can some one give me a list of shops or tell me a few differnt places i can email to get some price quotes for a 383 lt1. I have been looking and Im not finding to many. And if any of you dont mind telling me how much you payed for yours. I only have another month or 2 before I order so i want to start looking now.

I want somthing like this.
All forged 383 , Parts that I want included and installed are
Block,Crank, Pistons, rods, bearings, 4 Bolt mains. Maybe a cam. Still up in the air on that one.
p.s. I want to run 10-20 lbs of boost on it....lol... it only has to last 2 years or about 20k miles. And ill be happy.

Thanks
Micah

Call Jason @ AP Engineering. They build both 396 and 383 strokers for LT1s.

Hey Micah, there is actually an engine shop in Rochester that seems to be pretty good. I am sure you have heard of Proformance. They built a 1000hp LT1 motor for a friend of mine and was very well machined.

A word of advice from someone that has been through alot of engine builds: $2k cheaper engine is something that I would be hesitant on (you get what you pay for). Not saying that shop is bad because I know nothing about them. But, as attractive as it sounds, I would'nt have any of my motors done there. They could be a great shop, but I am just not willing to take that risk with one of my high dollar motors. Also, it is really nice to have someone build your motor within driving distance of the shop. Ask me how I know

Not sure if you had Proformance build your old motor or not, but I would check them out.

Hope things are going well, drop me a line anytime.
Jason

Where are they located at. I have not had any luck with shops in NY. But im willing to check them out. That way if they do mess somthing up. Its alot more conveinet on my part to go eat some one's soul.

I have been comparing the componets that are used and they are the same. Just these other shops are charging that much more for part's and labor.

Im half temped to try it my self, But i have not delt with pistons and rings yet ( my last thing to learn) . So i would rather have some one else who has at least built a complet motor once do it...lol.
Ill practice on the old one im taking out.

Any one else have any shop names numbers or web sites.

Yes they are actually one of the sponsors for this site.

http://www.automotiveperformance.net/

They are probably not the cheapest, but their quality is top notch.

WWW.revxtreme.com not really cheap but quality work. You will have to call on the engine build!

I totally agree with you. A lot of times paying a little more gets you further. However my friend has had very good look with his 383 LT4. It powers his low (hoping for 10s) 11 sec Impala. My other buddy has purchased one from Golen but has not had time yet to put it in..

Source out your internals but then find a good local machine shop to do the machine work. Lot less hassle. If Jason's recomending them, they have to be legit and I would go with them.

Well, I have personally never dealt with them, but I would. Normally I wouldnt make that suggestion, but my friend Rich Krause had his motor built/machined there. That was making over 1000hp. The guy that owns the place is named Matt I guess. I would call him up and see what they say. I know his prices are not the cheapest, but thats ok with me if the work in return is quality. Its REAL tough to find quality shops in our area (as you know Micah). Not like Houston or something

Micah, like you I am just looking for good machine shops as I do my assembly by myself. I am pretty tempted to try Proformance on my new motor.

Did you ever sell your Vortech?
Thanks, Jason

No still have the vortech. Still not sold . I think im just going to keep it. Its not worth losing 4 grand on the stupid thing. Im actualy going to be setting up a tripple power adder. Turbo, supercharger. NOS. Not many people running that. I like to be differnt.lol
I was at a shop in fairport like 4 years ago. The guys seemed very cool. and new what he was doing. I dont remember the name of the shop, and im not even sure if it is still there, but im going to go find out.
Im runing very tight on money for mods this year. So we will see what happens. It all depends on how well my stocks perform.
Does it cost more or less to order parts directly. Maybe ill just peice a 383 together.

Usually it costs less to buy the parts from another place. The only reason I say that is you know you are getting the right parts, and are not limited to the the only brands that shop is set up to get.

Would you still consider selling your Vortech without the aftercooler? Also, I have some parts that you may be interested in if you havent bought any of your engine internals yet.
