Default Stock Rear with Girdle???

I dont have the $$$ to get the rear done while Im finishing the engine and tranny. Anyone here ever run a girdle on the stock rear? I know they arent too strong but I was wondering how much of a differece will the girdle make? I will be running around around 500-600hp on low boost (6-8 psi) and hopefully around 800 on 14-18 psi when she goes to the track. I know the stock rear will have a heart attack with all that. The moser unit im looking at is $2,800.00 but I dont have the money for that right now. Any input would be appreciated.

I think the word would be KABOOM! Especially at full boost. If u keep boost low and dont hit the tires to hard off the launch you may be ok. Try to stay with a somewhat loose converter so it wont hit so hard. But ur just runnin on borrowed time for sure. Just plan on buying that 12-bolt in the REAL near future.

SPIN the tires cuz once it hooks up......booooooooom! The girdle will prevent deflection of the bearings and flexing of the housing. However the axles and posi unit will still be at risk. You can find a used 12bolt or 9inch with a spool and 30+ spline axles for around 1200ish if you look hard enough. Good luck and I hope your 60' times are 2.0 plus!

The girdle will make it stronger as stated above, but for the power
you want to plant, you really need the 12 bolt. I think you will
shell that 10 bolt with the power you will be making.
I have about 100 passes on my 10 bolt with a girdle. All have
been in the 1.8-1.9 range with the stock converter. I'll find
out soon how much it can hold up to the Yank ss3600 I just
swapped in.

I also have my stock rear end with the TA girdle.... has held up so far..... knocking on wood..... but i dont have much power to put down..... have launced on ET streets a few times, and Nitto DR's and it has held up!!! With all that power you have.... dont get the tires sticky and i think you will be ok...... for a few passes atleast...

Let us know how it holds up.....

Well, I probably wont run her hard off the line. I know she is capable of some great 60' times with the right tires and with all the power on hand, I just dont know if its worth the risk. I know my rear is on borrowed time. its just hard to find a relatively cheap rear that can handle the power shes gonna put down.

Has anyone ever tried buying an aftermarket differential for the 10 bolt? Always wondered with a good diff, some aftermarket axles, C clip eliminators, and a girdle if one could get by.

my car just went 7.55 in the 1/8 with a 1.68 60 ft with no problems with the stock diff and axles with a 4.10 gear . but i have a real tight converter . this weekend i am going to spray it and see what happens . if it breaks then i will have an excuse to go ahead and put the 35 spline moser 9 inch in that i have had laying in the garage for 8 months .

I was going to say that I run 11's all day long on a 7.5" rear end with a Auburn Differential with a 4.10 gear, but that is holding about 375 horsepower, not 600 to 800. All I can say is either spend the money on the new rear or get very proficient at swapping chunks and gears. Oh and by the way, the Differential that I bought was $400, the gears about $195 and the bearings were $60 for a grand total of $655, or about a third of the way from what you need.
