Default LT4 rev limit?

My Dad has a 96' C4 with the LT4. He said the stock limiter was 5800 rpms. He just got it bumped up to 6100 rpms. We both think that sounds a little low, do any of you know the highest you can safely rev the lt4?

I turn my stock internal full bolt-on LT1 WS6 to 6100 rpms all the time. I would think a LT4 should easily see 6100 to 6200. My soft touch on the MSD digital 6 is set at 6400.

I rev my solid roller (valvetrain is not the limiting factor here) stock short block to 6800. It`s not there for long, though.
I`m sure Mobil 1 helps and the ATI damper.
How long it will survive these bursts, I don`t know.
Rev at your own risk!

Stock, the LT4 should be higher than 5800. LT1s were 5750.
If I remember correctly, the LT4 goes to 6300.

I just remembered that he has an OBD1 computer. So it was probably using the LT1 limiter. Which would explain the 5800 (or 5750) limit. 63-6500 seems safe.

I rev my stock bottom ended LT1 to 7,000. If you added a better cam and valve springs you could go this high.

With the stock valve train I would go about 6,400. I just puller up two stock LT4 files and this is what the Limit was set at Now I can also tell you the Corvette tach seems to be WAY off on the to end

The computer stops giving fuel at 7,300 no matter what you set it at

Good luck!

Listen too this guy he is THE one that knows what he is talking about here. I know guys with heads/cam stock shortblock b-bodies spraying past 6800, the LT4 got parts that are supposed to be better like the 4bolt mains and a different crank, if the LT1 stuff will take all the pcm is capable of throwing at it(7000-7300rpms) then the LT4 can take it too.

graham, factory cut off is at 6411 rpm w/resume set at 6397. I upped mine to 6600 and have hit it a couple of times on the roadcourse. So far, no problems.

The last time I drove it, I did notice the tach was moving slowly, for what seemed like a fairly fast reving engine.

Sweet. Thanks for all of the help.
