Default Mods needed for Turbo???

Just like to say that I've been reading this forum for months without posting, and Y'all ROCK!!! Anyway, here's the scenario: Considering installing a turbo (possibly a TT) on my stock 94 LT1 (in a 82 Z). Is it safe to run no more than 6psi. I plan to eventually replace internals and lower compression allowing me to run higher boost, but for now, is it safe to run low boost on a stock with appx 70K miles? Thanks in advance for your input.

It's "relatively" safe with a good tune and some for of cooling whether it be IC or water/alky injection.

There are folks that run 8lbs forever on a stock bottom end and others who don't make it 5K miles....it's really up to the big LT1 man upstairs on when she go's.

Look , not to be mean , but if you are planning on putting 6psi to you motor,it will pop like pop corn. Turbo systems need low compresion, and if the LT1 is stock then the compresion on that thing should be like over 10:0:1. Ya you could get a bad *** tune and run the stock motor buy you will only be abel to run less than the 6psi, and that would be a waste. Just get your bottom end built, and if your only going to run 6 or less than 10psi, I would just get the motor rebuil ,and get some nice pistons,ring, keep the stock crank and rods, you should be good. Dont put tommorows problems for today, thats all i have to say. Do it now save some time,and money tommorw

You can run a turbo setup on a stock motor. Not much different from doing a Procharger. If i were you though, I do the internals FIRST, then do the turbo(s).

get a nitrous kit, you can put out safe hp/tq with a nitrous kit. these motors can take boost at all.

It has to come out first. Think it should be out sometime between maybe and never.

It's out!!! I've seen several of the Banks TT setups and they're awesome. They're bolt on for LT1's. Supposedly puts out up to 1200RWHP. I'll try to find they're website and post it later, but they're definitely out and running!!!

I know all about the Banks unicorn twin setup. The only place I ever see it is on their display stand. If it's out there, I'd love to see some results out of it.

Mongse, I'd love to have one installed, but first things first, sounds like I need to get forged and lower compression before I do anything. Secondly, the LT1 alternator is going to be in the way, I'd have to have a different alternator mount for the placement of this kit...Don't want to spend a ton of money for a different bracket system (the ones I've seen are around $1800) just to have this particular system...Any ideas???

Why not a PTK? Any reason why you have a preference for a twin kit instead of single?

I'm still strongly considering the PTK system. I like the fact that they supply the full system with their product. And their prices are good. The real reason for the TT by BAnks is that I've been very impressed with the work Gale Banks has done. He is the grand ole man of Turbos. It has both an extremely good look to the kit, and puts out tremendous[I] power.
I'd really like to make it work. BTW, the kit for our setup is $4700.
