Default MSD Opti Spark

Is this a whole replacement for the opti??? I saw in Summitt that it was only $150, compared to the GM replacement that is $300.

Because if this is the case, I'll be getting the MSD.

I believe you have to use the backplate of your current opti.

It is just a cap and rotor I just ordered it for my car. You then use the reuse of your opti unit like it is. We'll see how it works.

NO it wont fix it because there is more to the opti-spark unit than the cap and rotor. But, if the cap and rotor are the problem and it is not setting any codes then yes it will fix it without having to buy the whole unit.

That is usually the first sign of an opti. The resoultion of the crank/cam signal begins to breakup at high rpm causing the misfire. You might check your plugs if you have not changed them yet. Also check the fuel pressure and volume it could be going lean on the top end. Nine times out of ten though it is the opti. That is about the same way mine acted after I bought the car before it died.

I finished it Friday evening. It is a lot higher quality than the factory cap and rotor. It seems to idle a little smoother but it could also be in my head too. Since it seems new parts always run better. I went ahead and did a complete tuneup then put a jaccobs ignition system on it. Short term very happy, long term we'll see.

230 for the whole opti. i have put 3 on various cars. Helps out alot. Unless your running a stroked car and turning 6500 to 7000 rpm stock opti is fine. anything more than that switch to aftermarket delteq or something along those lines. if it was me i would go with orginal part. and for 230 dollars great quality. by the way the cap and button go out more than the optical sensor of the backplate does. Fyi. thats why more cap and buttons are sold than anything else. it cutting out in top end is a sure sign your opti is bad. id bet 100 dollars on it.

I pulled two codes from my car...

Ignition System Problem = High Res

Ignition System Problem = Low Res

does that sound like the optical sensor? the car will run fine until it warms up to temperature ~180 then it dies.

i'm planning on swapping to a vented opti while i do my cam swap but i'd like to know what it is, i have a good cap and rotor that i could put on it and sell...
