Default cam buildup

well it looks like im gonna go with the cc306 cam.. the question is should i use comp cam valve springs to go with it? if so what spec springs will i need? the other question is what roller rockers should i use.. i am going to 1.6 ratio but is there a specific brand that is better? im gonna go with some hardened stock length pushrods and keep the stock lifters in... i shouldnt have to change them should i?

I have the 306 in, and got the ex-612's for it from combo motorsports. I am gonna use the stock lifters, ive heard too many problems about collapsed comp-r's etc.

I'd change the lifters and timing chain while I was in there.

I'm not running the cc306, but as for your question:

-Lifters -- like Brett95z stated above, you can risk running the Comp R's, or go with Comp's factory SBC replacement. I chose the latter. Seem to have a lot of Comp R failures.

-Timing chain -- you're limited as far as timing sets go because of your 1994 unvented optispark. If you swap the rest of the parts over to a 1995 setup (opti, wiring harness, timing cover, etc), then you have more options. Put in an electric waterpump with that, and you can run any 1987+ SBC timing set. I'm running an $80 Cloyes double-roller -- no complaints whatsoever.

Otherwise, you're looking at either freshening it up with a new stock 1994 timing set, go after the $400 1992-1994 Cloyes, or dish out for the $550 Doug Rippie 1992-1994 timing set. I can get you the links if you are interested, but something tells me you aren't.

I wouldn't personally trust Summit's cheapo Lunati timing set. Not sure if they even make it anymore.

Im going to do the same thing. Correct me if im wrong but i was pretty sure you don't have to remove the heads for a cam install. Also for valve springs i was gonna go with the Isky D's, and for lifters a new set of stock ones, and for roller rockers the 1.6 cc magnum SA- I think a lot of people say that crane golds are really good, but expensive. Search ebay for this stuff, i know for sure there is a place that offers those lifters for a lot less than some of the f-body stores.

I just got a new chain for $40. I didn't see any benefit in switching to something else.

you dont have to lift the heads for the cam install. a stock replacement timing chaing is just as good as any, regardless fo what other manufacturers will say. Nobody has ever before, or probably ever will, hear of a new stock timing chain breaking or flexing. No need for even the LT4 timing chain to be honest.

I might be wrong on this but i see no prob with sealed power lifters from advance, timing chain a gears from gm, and silicone for gaskets. No need to go fancy.
