How close does she want to get to that $200?

I was kinda thinking along the same lines as Snow Dog. Perhaps a short throw shifter. A Proban 5.0 or B&M Ripper are $180 each + shipping.

Other than that, there aren't a whole lot of things under the $200 price range that amount to anything. For a birthday, you'd probably want to keep it simple so he doesn't have to work a lot to install it.

If it were me, I'd be happy to get a new tool set. Walmart has a nice portable 151pc Stanley tool set for around $120-130. Probably wont find a better deal for the dollar. I love getting tools as gifts...

Err.. I guess I kinda invented the birthday part. Is she just buying him something for the heck of it? Does she have a sister? Teasing...

I got a set of BBK headers and brand new fel-pros for 150 shipped if she wants them. 94-95 style. Pic here http://community.webshots.com/photo/...02618474mRwUhq

I am also in MA so since you are I'm assuming he's from the area as well. So there wouldn't be a need to ship so I would sell them for $120 or so.

It's about another $100 but you can get Pacesetter long tubes (painted). I would be tickled to death to get headers from my g/f (if I had one). Headers is next on the bolt on list anyway. Only problem is, he would have to get the exhaust shop to fab them up to his cat-back.

an aftermarket anodized shifter ball will sit about an inch lower than the stock shifter and will feel identical to a short throw shifter. dont waste money on an aftermarket short throw shifter because ti wont make you any faster, just more confident which is all in your head anyways. spend it on suspension, LCA's, PHR, sub frame connectors, etc. that will make the car feel entirely different/better

i dont like disagreeing with people but i would never race a car without stop bolts on the shifter.
