Default possible that opti drive gear thinggy fell out of time?

i finished installing my brand new optispark last wednesday and it ran perfect all of wednesday! even ran best 1/8 mile track times ever.. then thursday it wouldnt start. i realized that the ground wires on the coil bolts had fallen off so i reattached it and it turned over but ran like a dog.. feels like when you are off by a tooth on the optispark (94) is it possible for the opti gear to be in correctly but then fall out of timing? sorry if this isnt clear

It cannot change unless you remove the timing cover. It is gear to chain. So the whole setup would be out. I have never seen one jump but there is always a first time.

i mean just the little toothed thing that goes from the opti to the timing chain.. could it have been torqued enough to jump a tooth or something?

maybe if the bearings in the opti were junk, and they seized, but I doubt it, everyone knows of the famed reliability of an optispark......

oh its still running, well if it slipped a tooth, you most likely wouldnt be running at all.

the gear on the opti is keyed so you can only put it in one way. you cant get it wrong unless you bang it in, and you wouldn't run right from the start. sounds like you've got a different problem.

im still having trouble with my car running like its on 7 cylinders... right now its in pieces and im going to be replacing the optispark again because i have a spare on.. my question is how do i test for arcing in either the coil wire or spark plug wires and how do i test for impedance? i have a multimeter but i have no idea how to use it lol

Easy ways to test for arcing are letting the car run at night in the darkest area and looking for sparks jumping to something...or you can spray a light mist of water of the wires then use a test light and run it near the wires (don't pierce them) and see if it lights.
