start up question

Default start up question

Yesterday after work i went to start my car up and it would have a rough idle i would have to give little bit of throttle to keep it running wanted to die than it went away after bout 1 minute of giving it slight throtle than i i drove around shut it up and started it back up like an hour later and it started up no problems this moruing i went to start my car and it started fine than this after noon i went to start my car and than it did the same thing as last night. I dont think it is the opti spark but it might be. any ideas?????

My car did something simliar, one day it started to idle funny and I cound't figure out why, I screwed around with a few things and nothing seemed to work, then one day it just stopped.

Check the rubber intake boot. It tears easily and causes these types of problems. If that's not it, get the front up in the air and remove the 2 vent hoses from the bottom of the opti and see if any moisture drips out. If so, blow it out real good with some compressed air.

sounds kinda like the latest time my opti went out.

its getting more consistant now back fires at low rpms and runs fine when it gets in to the high R's there is a littlle crack in the intake boot i just noticed now i wounder of that could be the ccuase, also what are the possiblyitys of bad O2's car runs fine when it warms up a little, the back fireing with go away... help i need ideas i need to get this car fixed fast. is there anyway i can tell if it is the opti. its not throwing any codes at all

Tape up the boot (black duct tape looks factory). I can almost guarantee that unmetered air is your problem, especially if it's getting worse.

Yup i found the problem i think i took the intake boot off and looked and it was all cracked and smashed uplike it was letting air through. time for a new boot, stock or whatelse?

duct tape is the cheapest option, then a boneyard or dealer replacement (will probably tear as well), then the Vortec elbow. I have the Vortec elbow and I love it, no more worries about the weak boot!
