Default Cam Question

I know there has to be past threads on this and i tried to find some but it wont theres a database problem so i started a new thread. Whats up guys, im kind of new to the F Body game, i have owned one before but didnt do any modifications and most of my friends have them. My question is would a Comp Cams "304" Camshaft: 210/220, .500"/.510", 114 LSA (Lift is With 1.5:1 Rocker Ratio) (part number 4-07-304-8) be too big for a stock auto LT1, I plan on going with a nice cam, Ported heads and intake, Texas Speed True Dual, maybe some LT's, and a Lingenfelter cai. maybe a fuel pump and regulaor?

The cc304 is nowhere near too large. I, personally, think it's too small to even justify the cost of swapping. That's not too much larger than the factory camshaft. If you're wanting to go with a Comp 'off the shelf' / mild cam grind, the cc305 would be a far better choice.

There's really no need to mess with the fuel pump or regulator, unless the factory pieces are giving up on you. Otherwise, they should be able to keep up just fine.

Aftermarket computer reprogramming is strongly recommended.

Agreed completely. It's not even worth taking the time to swap cams with the 304.

I agree. There alot people running much larger cams and drive their cars daily. I ran a 230/236 on a stock bottom end and it had good street manners. Good Luck.

If i were you, I would first put in a stall, a small one if you dont want to go too wild, something like 2800 or so, and run a cc305 or xe224/230.

When i had my z, i ran the 305 and always wished that i had gone a little bigger, but i did have a manual, and if I had gone bigger than the 305 I would have really wanted to change my gearing.

305 would run fine with stock rockers. You'll need the mods you mentioned, definitely some headers, as well as a converter and a tune. Good luck.

i probably wont put a converter in it but maybe some headers if i go with a True Dual exhaust from Texas Speed. Is this exhaust a direct bolt on?

And if you're gonna go with the CC305 you might as well save a little money and get the Hotcam. Nearly identical and cheaper. Otherwise just spend the money and get something bigger.

Roller rockers are "preferred", not "required".

That's a pretty small cam.....depending on your goals, you'll more than likely want to go bigger shortly after you put that cam in.

My first cam was the Hotcam kit and while it performed well and sounded great, it got very old very fast.

i probably will take it out after a few months, its just that i dotn have that much cash because my 98 cobra needs a new clutch and the Z28 needs new gaskets from head gaskets up. I will probably get a bigger one after i get cams for my 98 cobra.
