an intake is an intake is an intake.. they're basically all the same thing. If you're asking if you should upgrade to a ram-air from the CAI, don't. It won't show you any more power gains.

Bingo. It's all really the same. Except that ram air hoods and air boxes will lighten your wallet by a much higher amount. Some people will try to convince you that ram air is the way to go because it will "pack" more air in at high speed. It's simply untrue. ram air is a trade mark named. Not a function. For it's function on these cars it's a myth

there is some truth to that. one is probably not really any better than the other. if you have an intake kit that grabs the hot air under the hood verses one the crabs the cooler air from out side the engine bay there may be a slight increase in efficiency. if i remember the Moroso kit locates the filter far enough away from the engine to where it probably will not make much difference if any. plus in order for the RAM in the ram air to work more effectively the engine own ability to take in air you would have to drive everywhere at like 80 MPH or more. most kits help more in reducing the turbulence in the incoming air charge more than anything.

however, if you have the hood and parts to make it functional use it. personally i am not a fan of "Scam-Air". it is just a pet peeve of mine. i do realize that there is little or no HP gains either way. again just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions and a$$holes. basically use what ever you like more yourself.

With the exception of the crappy G2 cold air.. all of the Normal CAI's locate the filter out of the engine bay under the splash gaurd cut off from the heat by a plate. The cold air coming in is the real performance gain in this system. Some people cut that plastic gaurd off and install a "ram air" "scoop" to it to pack air in. That doesn't work. The filter will only suck as much air from around it as the motor will allow. pushing air up against the filter isn't going to do anything. The sealed boxes from ram air style hoods will help push that air into the filter but again it will on't take as much as the motor needs. The size and shape of the ram air hoods makes the function more or less non existent. One person that I know worked out some figures for the LT1 style Ram air system and figured a little less then 1% gain @ 100 MPH. So even at speed it's really not going to do much of anything except the afore mentioned draining of the wallet

Me, I saved about a grand and just went with a LPW CAI instead of an SS hood and airbox. Works fine for me

I believe the only gain from a ram air, if any, would be with the T/A hood. The ss is the worst design because the scoop is in a terrible location, out of the natural air stream at speed, and promotes heat soak due to the path the ait takes all around the hood.

what forum was it in that the guy made his own custom cold air intake? it looked badass and looked like it functioned similar to a Ram Air system.
