Question LT4 conversion questions

Here is my scenereo.

I am wanting 400-450 hp.

Guidlines:

This car has to be able to be a daily driver.
Budget $2,500

I have found the complete LT4 conversion kit from GM for $2,100.00 (I can get for cost)

I do plan on adding 100 shot of Nitrous, but NOT right away.

For my goal of 400-450 hp (without NOS and or Forced induction), and a $2,500 budget what would you prefer? I would rather only go with a Head,Cam, intake package to achieve this, yet still be fully streetable. (FYI, I plan on Headers, cat back is on the way)

Is my stock fuel system going to struggle? new pump, injectors? What size? where to get?

What size throttle body to go with? TB spacer worth the $?

The car is a 96 SS car, meaning it has the intake to accomodate the Hood scoop, is there a better alternative?

I will need to buy a PCM tuner i was thinking HP tuners. (I have laptop) any suggestions?

I really am trying to stay away from Superchargers, or turbo right now.. Definately may go with that at a later time.

Thanks for the Info guys! much appreciated!

Take it from someone who has been there, don't do it. I had exceptional results with mine but most people struggle to make the advertised hp. Do yourself a favor, troll the boards and buy a used set of ported LT1 heads, get a nice cam....CC305 is a little bigger than the hot and still emissions legal. Get a TB and a tune and you will walk all over most LT4 conversions...for less $$$$.

Holy crap, I just saw that you don't have headers. Get some...NOW!!! I prefer the mid-length RK Sport/ASM style, very good performance and no hassles with a custom y-pipe or ground clearance. I would suggest a conventional CAI over the stock style SS ducting. The heat soak with that intake is krazy. 58mm TB, you will have to port match the intake to the TB, easy stuff. I would use 24lb SVO injectors, nah make that 30 if you plan on doing juice later. Good luck.

There are better ways to get to that power level, for less money even. Complete your bolt-ons first before you look at heads/cam, it's best to have a full exhaust before you break in to the motor.

bolts on first then major mods. no need for a new TB until you get the heads and cam. id stay with a 52 then anyways.

as for you goals though. that LT4 package requires exhaust changes before you reach that power level. if and only if the fuel system and ignition system can hanlde it will they be fine for your goals. you need to make sure all of that is in tip top shape before throwing mods at the car. no sense in spending thousands on heads and cam if your fule pump is dying. the car wont make any power then. now i am assuming you mean 400-450 crank horse power, not rear wheel right? if so then the LT4 conversion will get you there if you have all the bolts ons too. substitute a bigger cam in there and you will be set. there are many choices out there that will fit your needs.

Good information so far guys.. i guess i can expand a little more now that i know some new things...

I am willing to go with a bigger cam than the GM hot cam, if it can handle daily driving criteria. What cam is recomended? expected price? specs?

I was thinking about the Elliot Portworks LT1-LE3 package $1,800
Includes:
Larger valve seats in heads
2.05/1.60 valves
comp bee hive springs
titanium retainers & 10 degree locks
208 CC intake port
milling
cleaning
assembly
flow rates 275/195
Ready to be bolted on

Says with the supporting mods (36/42lb injectors 58mm tb and good tuning) should see 410-430 RWHP.

Does this sound right? i have heard people talk about him.. he does really good work.

And is my fuel system gonna be over-loaded? The car only as 11,000 miles on it. (1996 ss 6-speed)
The fuel system shouldnt be worn out. what other mods for sure would i need for this?

What type of cam would work well with these heads?? And is my fuel system gonna be over-loaded? The car only as 11,00 miles on it. (1996 ss 6-speed)

I'd stick with LE2 in your situation, you're going to be spinning the motor pretty high to make the best of the LE3 setup. It's not really optimal on a stock bottomend, but definitely possible. Give Lloyd Elliot a call and ask his advice.

Thanks for the offer, but not really interested in an LT1 trade. Looking at LS1's if i were to trade. Yes I just bought the car last week from a 70+ year old guy. He ordered it new from a local dealership. 11,000 miles!
