Default oil temp. 2 high! need help!!!

When i drive my car 2 my gf's house which is 25 miles from my house my oil temp. jumps from 160 to 270 in about 10 minutes.when im going about 80-90mph on the freeway and when im slowing down because of traffic or because im going to exit the freeway and i let go of the gas to where the car is going about 40mph I hear the exhaust backfire and a small popping noise and that's when the Service Engine Soon light comes on.this happens every time i go 2 my gf's house, and my car has started to run hotter .I took it to a mechanic and he just recommended a oil cooler.DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE OIL TEMP. TO GET HOT SO QUICK????

Is the car having any overheating problems? Perhaps an oil cooler would be a good investment.

you need to figure out why its getting hot. a cooler is only a bandaid. these cars dont need them to run correctly. the oil should only be getting that hot under heavy and prolonged abuse such as road racing. your car may already have a cooler on it also. does the oil filter screw directly into the block or does it screw onto this black thing that has two rubber hoses running to it? it will be in the same location either way.

i would find out what code you are throwing first. also make sure your oil level is up where it should be. adding an oil cooler should only happen after you figure out why it runs weird. if it was running lower but is now running higher theres a problem that needs to be fixed first. and for a street car i would not recommend an aftermarket cooler. you dont need it and you do need the oil to get hot so as to burn off the contaimanents in the oil. oil temps of 210-230 are perfectly normal.
