Default Can I pull a Valve without removing the head?

I hate too keep posting about this, but everytime I look at the head I dread having to pull it. I have a valve that is making a bad clacking noise and when I remove the push rod the sound goes away, but I have a miss. I put new lifters in and then somehow bent the pushrod on the very valve thats clacking, so Im wondering if I bent the valve, or what, but its just that one valve(3rd from the back, pass. side on #6). Can I just use a spring compressor and pull the valve out from the top?

Look at a picture of a valve...the fat diameter part of the valve is on the combustion chamber side of the head. Only way to remove the valve is to take off the head and pull the valve out from the combustion chamber side.

Pulling the head off isnt that bad, once you get the intake and valve covers off your almost there.

you really could but it would be a dick load harder than just removing the head......drop the hole bottom end of the motor, crank, pistons, rods ect. reach up through the cylinder and have a friend unclip the valve. when it falls you catch it and you have sucsesfuly taken a valve out without removing the head. however, then you have to reassemble a motor from the bottom up.....just take the head off...

You'll have to pull the head.

Remember to use the new ring compressor j-tool from gm for re-installing the pistons from underneath. And be sure to mark the bearings for future re-installation, ah hell throw out who needs them anyways. On a more serious note good luck and just pull the head it looks way worse then what it actually is.
