LS1 vs LT1

i hate threads like these. 
too much opionin and ignorance trying to pretend to be fact.
just because a certain aspect is discontinued doesn't mean it's because it was not effective. gm did not pursue reverse flow cooling with the next gen motor because of pending litigation. the lt1 will also not stand up to boost better than an ls1.
you'd be hard pressed to name a real reason where the LT1 outshines the LS1, but that's just how technology works. it's all a matter of personal preference and there are many reasons to go either way.
i love my lt1 and even if i had the money i would not be stepping up to an LS1 fbody. i would skip straight to a vette, but the differences between the lt1 and ls1 4th gen cars isn't enough for me to ditch the older for the newer.

LT1s are cheap, reliable, easy to make awesome power from, plentiful, lots of mod parts and just sound plain MEAN. That's why I went LT1 instead of LS1. Stock vs. Stock with equal drivers an LS1 can eat an LT1, but once you start modding it's ALLLL personal preference.

Listen, if you plan on modding your car, it really doesnt matter which motor you go with because both cars will put out monster numbers once modded. However, if you plan on street racing the car, the LT1 is the perfect stealth killer because nobody really thinks twice about racing LT1's. Everyone always underestimates the LT1 and that makes it the perfect car to make money with.

I own both LT1 and LS1. I'd prefer the 98+ body styling, the interior styling, and the LS1s better stock vs stock power. You def can feel the difference. If i were you, i'd wait and find a nice 98+ year. Just my .02
The LT1 is a much better sleeper car. Everybody thinks they are slow for one. If you are going to run it short distances, such as light to light, the LT1 will be stronger for less money. If you are looking for a car to run stronger on topend, the LS1 is the way to go. I prefer the LT1. I have 4 other friends with LS1 cars, and none of them even remotely compare to my car out of the hole, even my buddies car that runs mid 11's like mine, is not too impressive out of the hole. Again, it all comes down to preference, and what you are looking for. I'm with the other guy, if I had the money, I'd still stick with my LT1.

Yeah for what I want Im thinking the LT1 is good, around here if I were racing it would be on a strip with a lot of lights, a little highway but not even that long of a stretch so I think the LT1 is for me.

just to let you know to the person named SWANG. You say if you want to go with forced induction go LT1? NO WAY If I was going to go with forced induction I would much rather have a LS1 bottom end. They can handle a lot more than a LT1. A LT1 has a 2 bolt main and none of the internals are forged as for the LS1 they have 6 bolt mains thats right 6 and can handle a lot more
That's a tough question. I have owned a 98 Z28 and a 94 Z28 and like the debate between the mustang and camaro the both have fauls.
My 98 A4 3.23 ran 13.4 stock,w/lid 13.2, headers/exhaust 13.0, 3300 presision convertor 12.80/105, 125 shot 11.61/116 on et streets.
A good friend of mine has a 96 A4 3.23 that ran a 14.0 stock, cai,exhaust,2200 convertor 13.2/106, 225 shot 11.93/123 on dr's.
Just depends on what you are looking for as far as modding the car. Anything will go fast if you throw money at it. I personally think the LT1 is a stronger motor "builted wise" then a LS1 is. But if your looking for fast with a few mods the ls1 is the way to go.

They're both great motors. The LS1 has more potential in the horse power department due to a superior cylinder head and intake manifold design, but you can still make plenty of power with an LT1 F-body if that's all that your budget will allow. I personally like the LT1. It still somewhat resembles the old school small blocks, and it's fairly cheap to build. It's just my preference. In the end, they're both awesome engines. You can't go wrong either way. If you wan't a "newer" car, and you can afford it, go ahead and pick up an LS1 F-body. You won't regret it.
