Default Cutout Is On

I got my cutout installed today and I love the sound but is it normal to lose a little low end torque with the cutout open? It just kinda feels that way to me, and I'm pretty sure its not my imagination, but I haven't capped it back up yet to compare.

It is normal to lose some low end torque. I hate that. I love the sound for about 2 weeks then I can't stand it anymore and I have to cap the sucker. The in-cab drone and low end noise become annoying to me. However upper rpm sound is awesome.

So even with the low end loss, it still makes you faster in the 1/4?

Should'a sprung for the electric cutout...it's great. It's like two exst systems in one at the flip of a switch. Prolly the best and cheapest mod i have ever done.

I have noticed a small amount of low end torque loss when the cutout is open. Most noticeable when going from a stop, I can feel it in the clutch. But for mine there's a very noticeable upper end gain, so it balances out. Looking at my dyno sheet the car is still pulling at 5500 rpms with the cutout open, whereas with it closed it's steadily falling up there.

I also have a very crappy muffler that I'm fairly certain is restrictive as hell, so that's most likely a problem in itself!

A 2nd for the electric cut-out. I have mine installed inthe floor pan recess near the rear door seam area and don't have hardly any resonance, just a nice throaty sound.

QTP sell them. YOu can buy the valve and just bolt it up to the cutout you already have on there. IT's like 200 bucs...well worth it imo.

yes even though you "loose" low end tq you're making up for it up top. Typical gains on the track are anywhere between .1-.3

The farther back on the car, the less low end torque you will lose. Mine is just before the rear axle pointing at a 45 to the ground, basically pointing at the inside of the back rear wheel. Sounds awesome, little resonance, but ear piercing loud when there is a guardrail or a wall to the right of me.

Hmmm...Absolutely no feeling of less low-end torque with my open cutout (installed right before the axle) on my bolt-on LT1. Feels exactly the same to me as when I've run my exhaust completely through the previous Hooker, GMMG, & now Flowmaster I currently have...

Besides the much louder, deeper, and more aggressive sound, it does seem to pull a little bit harder up top...

Mike

P.S. My cutout w/ Mac headers + Random Tech highflow cat isn't even loud enough for me anymore, lol. So, now I want to replace the cat with an ORP.

If you mount it where everyone else has said, towards the rear, you can route the wiring through the drain plug under the rear seat...there's a little rubber grommet you can just poke it through, that's where mine is and works perfectly. Here's a pic of where mine is...i don't have my car so i can't take any more pictures of it...but you get the idea from this one...

For the hell of it, my z is straight piped right now, and I love it minus the low end sound, but once she hits 2500 she really starts to scream. I took off part of the Borla right behind my y-pipe, long tubes and a LIL' cam, it scares people. even better @ 4am running in drive(3rd) at about 90 waking everone up is great. I'm sooo gonna get in trouble for this one
