Sell It Or Mod It?
Looking for advice guys, I love my LT1, but I want something with lower miles, a bit better gas mileage, and something I don't have to dump money into in College. With gas prices latley I'm considering getting a damn moped to drive to and from work and school, so the new Camaro if I get one won't be driven quite as much as this one. It would also be nice to have a newer Z to trade in on a new Camaro when they come out... and they will.
EDIT: With the other 6 grand after paying off the LT1 I plan on doing Heads/Cam, gears, suspension etc. It would be very fast but it wouldn't exactly be great for College.
Also, although a heads/cam LT1 isnt going to be a gas saver, or practical...neither is a newer LS1 car. Before you know you will be modding that too, and basically be in the same boat. I personally like the look of LT1 maros better than LS1s.
However, there is something to be said for a lower mileage, newer car of the same type. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I would not spend all of the 4k on the car, maybe if theres something you been wanting bad do it and keep the rest of the money for "just incase".
Not a chance. I got a 44,000 mile fully loaded Black Trans Am for $5,000 even. I have put *maybe* $1,000 worth of mods into it at most, and considering its basically the same cheapo body as an LS1 car and the same fkn interior more or less, Im actually glad I didn't spend 10K plus on an LS1 trans am with what, 20-30 more HP and a metallicy tin can sounding exhaust note....

I don't think that's true at all. If I had wanted an LS1 I would still be saving, instead I'm driving and modding. LT1s aren't all that much slower than LS1s in stock form anyway.

But with the extra cash you could build a beast of an lt1

No idea why that guy thought that, lol.

And nothing is wrong with my LT1 either! From my own personal experiences, your average bone stock LT1 runs low 14's @ 97-99 (some a little better; some a little worse). Whereas your average bone stock LS1 runs mid 13's @ 103-105 (some a little better; some a little worse). Everything just depends upon vehicle condition, transmission, gearing, driver error, track prep, and weather...
Best I've ever seen an LT1 go completely stock was a 13.5ish...And it wasn't too long ago that someone local here ran his factory stock '01 WS6 to a 12.8ish @ 109 at Union Grove (Great Lakes Dragway).

Anyway, to the thread starter...A newer car would no doubt be nice, but you won't have much money leftover after you purchase a lower-mileaged LS1. Since you won't get $hit for your '93, I say just keep it, do ONLY bolt-ons while your in college (to maintain your drivability & gas mileage). You'll also have plenty of money in the bank in case you need it. And then finally build up the motor once you can purchase a new DD car after you graduate and start up in the real world...

Just my .02...
