Default lt1 to lt4 conversion

i have a lt1 and converting it to an lt4. i have a 94 firebird with 3.73 gears and 6 speed tranny. how much horsepower will i be running and what do you think it will run at the track.

well you'll need to add more bolt on's to get close to or above that advertised 425hp. Headers, Intake, Exhaust, Tune, and prolly a 52mm TB will get you there. If you're interested in getting more Hp for you money Loyd Elliot has better packages that offer more hp gains then the LT4 conversion kit can

The 425 HP rating is a FLYWHEEL horsepower rating. With proper tuning and all accompaning boltons your looking at maybe 350 Rearwheel horsepower. Like said above, contact Lloyd Elliot. His LE1, LE2 & LE3 packages produce more power than the LT4 conversion kit. Here is his site.

Bet the 425hp claims tempted you in and I also bet you did not understand that tested under the same conditions your stock engine would dyno something around 360 or so. The LT4 kit is today mostly reserved for those who fail to do even basic research first.

I got the kit and am happy. May not have the power of his packages but i wanted very streetable, and decent gas mileage(which i don't have). Loyd does good work from what i hear so make sure you research and go for what you want.

The LT4 conversion is rated at the flywheel, of an engine that had no air filter, no emissions, enormous headers, and they were only able to make 425 at the flywheel. Bolting on the LT4 package to a stock LT1 will maybe, maybe give you 380 at the wheels....maybe. Your best bet is to go with a head and cam package, spend the extra money and put yourself into the 400 mark at the wheels. The LT4 package is a waste of money, and i'm suprised that they (GM) continues to make them. It is not worth the money. Hell, spend a bit more and do a 383 stroker and make yourself some real power. Hope this helps.

buy a 383 bottom end from www.golenengineservice.com

buy bare AFR 210cc head castings from an AFR dealer

buy used LT4 intake

send your AFR castings/LT4 intake to Lloyd Elliott

have Lloyd assemble them/port them and match them up

assemble all of it... with matching custom cam...

say hello to 500rwhp

450rwhp at LEAST...

edit: oh yea, dont forget the other stuff associated with it... 58mm throttle body, GOOD tuning, injectors/fuel pump (30# or higher, good 255lph pump)
