Default Should I be concerned

Whats up fellas
So the other day when i was driving to my local engine shop i noticed that my service engine light was on. I dont know if it is really worth $45 to see what the code is. I mean, performance wise it feels the same as usual. The car is well taken care of, oil is changed every 2-3 months, and really isn't driven all that much, maybe 500-600 miles a month. I dont want to spend $45 to find out is is some gay *** code that has nothing to do with the performance of my car. It turns off and on. I think it only comes on after a few times slamming down the throttle. I first noticed it after i slammed it at a light about up to 50mph. Whether or not this is when it turned on i dont know because i am used to having the orange ABS INOP light on so lights down there dont catch my attention easily. But after talking to my mechanic about a rebuild and supercharger i got in my car to drive home, and it was off. I slammed it at a few lights to see if it would come on again, but it wasnt coming back on. Then about a minute or two after third light i am just cruising down the road when i look down and the ******* on again. Today when i went to school the thing stayed off the whole time, even through some WOT, yet on the way home it stayed on the whole time without me even slamming the throttle down. My mechanic said it really isnt very serious if i dont feel a performance difference, but i just want a second opinion. Thanks guys.

I think Autozone scans for free. You might check them.

AutoZone does diagnostic testing for free, but its not as extensive as a dealership is. Youre check engine light has to be on for AutoZone to tell anything, so youll be fine this time. They can at least point you in the right direction. Save yourself some $$$ and go to AutoZone.

My ses light came on and it was a dying o2 sensor....if you get the light to come on, stop into autozone real quick and they should be able to tell you what code it is tripping.

You can afford a rebuild AND a supercharger but can't afford to see what your code is?

I mean I see what you are saying that sure you don't want to waste the money if it's something dumb, but if I was about to turbo/sc my car I think I would want to make sure everything was in excellent condition and working smoothly first.

You will want to see what's wrong with it ASAP with FI. You can really screw crap up especially with the power output of a turbo/supercharger.

Autozone can only do it with OBDII. I have a scanmaster which tells me my codes, but I dont know what you can do other than knowing someone with a scanmaster, or knowing someone with autotap or some diag software and a laptop/cable.

The supercharger/rebuild isnt coming till about april of next year, and to make sure that is is coming by that time i need to save up every penny. **** i cant even afford to buy new shoes. Anyway, it hasnt come back on in the last two days, so thats good. I just think that one of my o2 sensors is going bad. Thanks for all the input guys.
