Down low(idle-3500) around town I like my LT1,the LS1 really shines up top from 3500-6000rpm.

For what it would cost to replace my car and mods,I will stick to my old iron block LT1.

I have beaten an LS1 or two with my Caprice granted I have more mods but the Caprice hooks and the lt1 lowned wide torque band makes this car move. I have beaten cars that MPH6-7mph higher than mine and have seen lightly modded ones have a hard time breaking into the 13s on nights when I am trying the same. Driver and traction mean a lot, on street tires I have some 1.9s with my Caprice, I don't see a lot of stockish f-bodies do that, combine it with a good reaction time and I can take cars that are more powerful and lighter. My car has a handfull of 13 second slips as is and once i finish the header install it should be consistently there I have spoken to LT1 and LS1 owners at my local track with some basic boltons even that can't seem to get a 13 second slip, sometimes it is bad mods like a Hypercrap holding them back and sometimes it is just driver/traction.

actually camaro owner, it is very easy for the ls1 to run mid 13s, contrary to what your friend has gotten with his ls1. perhaps it's tired or he's a poor driver.

LS1s run about .5-.7 faster on average, stock vs stock than an LT1. That is consistant with 50 more hp. Remember theres alot more to racing than dyno numbers.

and also remember that .5 in the quarter is difficult to feel on the street, as it's not very much at all. Seriously just tires and a good driver can make an Lt1 run neck and neck with an LS1 down the 1320.

Your right, LS1's can run low 13's stock. But like I was saying, those are M6's. Your not going to see a stock LS1 A4 on street tires run a low 13. My friends car is very nice and he doesn't drive an automatic bad. He is pulling 2.1 60'. That's not good, but he is on street tires. If he had some drag radials, I could believe he would run a high 13. I personally don't think he could pull any better than a 1.9 60' stock. His mph is just not fast enough to run a low 13, period. I read up on another thread and this kid with a stock 00 Z28 had his time slips posted. (he ran the 1/8) He ran a 9.1 with a 2.1 60'. His times match my friends pretty good. (Although, my friend has an SS) I find it a little unlikely that these two cars just don't run well. With those times, he should be right around a 14.1 or so. I believe with better traction he could get a 13.9 though. Those times are very similiar to the LT1.

This is a false statement, my buddy who is a member of this board and might chime in has a 01 Z A4 thats ran a best of 13.08 bone stock with a 2.0 60' and some cheap *** street tires, he also managed a 1.9 60' with these tires, were gonna see if it can hit 12's in the cool october weather and a newly added LM exhaust. i've driven some LS1 that didn't felt like a dog and some that didnt i guess it really depends on whos taken care of the cars and whos not.

I like my LT1 but you gotta love the looks of those LS1 T/As and WS6s. Thats why I want one anyway, not for the motor but for the bad ***, beat you down and **** on you looks.

On a side note, apples to oranges would be like comparing your LS1s to my Acclaim. At least the LT1 and LS1 are both V8s, are basically the same size, and have pushrods.

The similarities of the LT1 and LS1 are just what you said...theyre both v8's and they both use pushrods. Other than that, theyre totally different. To say otherwise is ignorant. Different bore, different stroke, different block, different heads, different intake, different exhaust. Get it? This thread has gone nowhere but down since post #1 so Im done with it. You guys are right, Im wrong...the LS1 sucks.

What elevation are you at?

An LS1 running those times with that 60 ft HAS to be at elevation, or something is SERIOUSLY wrong with his car.

I'm in st.pete florida. The elevation should be fine. Wow, I'm impressed to hear that someone has ran a 13.0 with a stock A4 LS1. Well, that is a freak of car. Someone else said there moms car ran a 13.2 once. That's also damn good. These are times I would suspect. But from my friends and the one I drove. There is no way it would run that. Well, I stand corrected then. I have only witnessed 2 LS1's and have drove 1. I went by those judgements. (3 different cars) If people are out there running better times, I believe it. It was just hard for me to believe, especially after driving the SS. I still don't think there is any reason to bash on the LT1's. It's not a big enough difference to freak out about. Either way, they are both fun to drive.

Bill, that is not quite right. Most LS1 cars will hit the rev limiters on WOT shifts with the shifter in 3rd, instead of 4th gear position. That is from the factory, no tuning or programming.

Yeah, I didn't think that made much sense when he said that. I never got a chance to reply back. There was no tuning done to that car at all. I have drove other "stock" cars that have done the same thing. Just because it hits the rev limiter doesn't mean it was tuned. My old camaro hit the rev limiter when it was stock. Besides, why would someone tune there car and not even have a K&n air filter or exhaust? That really just doesn't make any sense. It's pretty obvious this guy didn't care about racing. The dealer told me it was owned by a 40 year old guy and he got rid of it, because his wife wanted something bigger. "Plain and simple." Why do some of you act like you know everything? You weren't there, how can you assume these things. Perhaps something is wrong with the tranny. Maybe something else is wrong with it. LS1's are not god you know.

LT1 makes more torque (and makes it sooner) ... a 383 LT4 headed z28, stripped down a bit - atleast no power options, would probably be close to a LS1 in many ways...

IMO its all about the damn same... LS1 motor weighs a little less, LT1 makes more torque sooner (and thus would probably make a better street car) if you have the right heads to go along with it that is.

Its all about preference.... another thing to consider is that you can get a LT1 z28 shell for next to nothing (im sure if you really hunt for one, you can find it for $500 if it needs paint and/or mild body work (i.e. no unibody damage) and has no/blown motor or trans) whereas a LS1 shell would cost $3500 for a good one....

if i had to do it all over again knowing what i do now, i'd have bought a shell, bought a golen 383 "budget" bottom end , thrown some ported AFR LT4 heads on it with good injectors (36 lb), gone to get it tuned and get the body work straightened out/fuel system worked out and been outta there for like $12-14k.... including purchase price of the shell

if you nitpick and you're frugal about it, it can be done for that price..... put most $$$ into the motor and tuning... have a 450rwhp 383 that **WILL** beat all but >350cube cars with a supercharger/turbocharger/nitrous (and that includes LS1's) ...

just my $0.02

LT1 cars do that too.. at least mine does. When I race I race with it in 3rd, and one the 1-2 shift at WOT she'll tap the limiter.
