Default why do I have a high rpm miss?

95 z28 lt1 m6. 162k miles. misses between 4000-5500 rpm at close to or at WOT. I have replaced with new opti and wires a few thousand miles ago. I know a lot of people have posted about this phenomenom(sp?) but I think I may have a plan of attack. I am going to replace the plugs this week, but what do you guys think of it being a crank position sensor? just an idea that a very good mechanic friend of mine offered advice to check out.

it could be leaning out you might put a fuel filter in and see what that does, or maybe the pump is going bad

I actually had the same problem before I blew my engine. My car would start running a little hot. After I took the old one out. . . I found that my waterpump was busted open.
