Default Compression Test?

what is a compression test? how do you do one? Im hearing that you need to do one before you get a cam, cuz you dont want bad comression for a cam, what if i have a shitty test how can i get the compression back up etc. I am askin this cuz im lookin into getin a GM cam and some AFR heads. Any input guys thanks.

you run a compression test mainly to determine the condition of the piston rings and cylinder walls. low compression could mean to rebuild. high compression is good and will usually mean the engine is still in sound shape.

You can also lose compression through your heads. You can compression test with a simple compression tester from any auto parts store. Remove one plug at a time, thread the tester into the cylinder, remove your coil wire, and crank the motor for a few seconds.
