I think it is brand new, it was just released at SEMA and won the Award for Best New Performance Product. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard anything about it. I imagine it will be a couple weeks/months before it is for sale.

Meh, whats a stock one list at these days any way?
Any case not knocking the product but sorry to say its about a good 5 years to late on to the scene. People knew Optis were a problem in the 90s, every one knew it that was building LT1 but the cars still had warranties in the 90s, it took them way to long to get on the ball. If they put this out in 00 they have had a strangle hold on LT1s because by then the last 97s were out of warranty and prety much all the other ones built were either out or soon to be if they still had one left. Durring 90s why pay when GM will foot the bill, after that, why buy a GM one if its crap when you get a better one for the same price.
It took MSD almost 9 months to finally release thier cap and rotor. When I was at sema last november the reps said it would be in stores by march. It didn't show up untill July because they were having "issues" with the design. Summit offered a rebranded cap for relatively the same price but with a 30 day warranty.

I do believe the Vented version from Dal is right around $200 plus I highly recommend getting a new vacuum harness (vented version only
) and that's only another $15. Last time I checked I remember Dal Offers a warranty on optis you buy from him. I'd have to double check but I thought it was 2yrs.Matt
Much like LT1 heads developements from the aftermarket were slow BECAUSE THE STOCK PARTS ARE GOOD.
They can always count on you sheep to buy anything they SAY is better though remeber Granatelli and Hypertech SAY their products are good but even most of you sheep have learned better AFTER these things were in public hands and not performing.
The cap and rotor just started shipping a few weeks ago a YEAR after they were "released" The whole unit is projected to be at least 6 months out due to the 3 month backlog on cap and rotor orders, bet it is next fall before these actually hit the street in any number and AFTER that you can evaluate what results people are getting and begin to think about wether it MIGHT be better than the good stock piece.
I am not saying the cap and rotor or whole distributor are bad, just that the stock parts are many times better than given credit for and it is friggin STUPID and a grand display of what is wrong with todays society the way you people talk up how wonderful things are before anyone independant has tested them based solely on the companies advertizing.
Accell is also slated to release an opti at a lower price and really if you are convinced the opti is so bad why not use one of the multi coil systems which only retains the very low wear optical part of the opti.
This stuff is the aftermarket capitolizing on the ignorancethat drives the "opti is bad" mentality, in doing so they might have created something stronger BUT we don't know that till guys are putting lots of miles on them.

opti's blow! they are **** and DO NOT hold up in a performance oriented application! I have gone through enough of them in the past year to know!
96capricemgr,
I'm with Taner. I don't know how many high performance LT1's you have dealt with, but when you really start making power with these motors, YOU ALWAYS run into problems with the opti's when turning more than stock RPM's. This is a fact. Sheep this and sheep that, yeah, maybe the vast majority of people on here buy parts that they don't need or even fully understand, but the LT1 opti IS NOT a good design...a good idea-yes, but not a good design.
I have the stock PCM and shift at 6,800-7,000 and am sick and tired of trying to make NEW GM Opti's work on these cars. I also have an MSD ignition, MSD coil, new wires, etc. The stock unit just isn't designed to do what I need it to do and what some others need it to do. My 3rd opti currently, all GM parts, all brand new, all vented, all installed by one of the larger LT1/LS1 performance shops, and all have intermittent and/or constant misses at or above 6,500rpm with a high compression and high cylinder pressure motor N/A.
There's my real world experience, where's yours?

looks nice but i don't much faith in MSD OPTI-Spark technology. they were suppose to release the cap and rotor kit in April. they keep puching it back by a month every month. i spoke to a guy at summit and said that MSD has only promised him 4 and they have been spoken for month ago. how long will take them to come out with this? 2 years instead of 1 after they start advertising it? someone else have been making a billet OPTI-Crap replacement already and it has been out for a year or more.

Crap or no, tested or not, stock opti good or not, everyone makes valid points. To each his own. Peterbilt might make the best f*cking rig on the road but I just don't need one to drive to the grocery store. Regardless, it's pretty and I really like the timing adjustment.
