optispark
optispark ok im a newbie and have seen people have alot of probs. with the optispark, so my question is what the freak is a optispark, i just got a 95 ta, and it misses pretty bad so we changed plugs and wires and still no fix, is this the optispark and what the heck is a optispark so i can finally know.

if it's cutting out, sputtering, dying, etc it is probably the optispark. It is located underneath and behind (sort of tucked actually) the waterpump. To replace, the radiator, air intake system, and waterpump come off and there she blows. For the cheapest route, you can get a new OEM piece from samtaylor.com for something like 239 shipped.
The biggest problem with the opti is NOT the opti but rather the cap and rotor cost more than other distributors and are harder to change so people neglect them and they cry when they eventually act up but ANY distributor will act up eventually if the cap and rotor are left on as long as many are on the opti. Is it perfect no but it's reputation is FAR worse than deserved mostly because people lack anything resembling reasoning skills these days. Other distributor caps and rotors are frequently changed with the plugs and wires because they are a wear item due to the spark having to jump the gap from the rotor to cap.
I didnt have to take out the radiator, just the fans for the crank shaft pully puller. Im putting everyting back togather basicly all i have left is the water pump and fill the radiator... i have only worked on it for an hour. (thats to put everything togather)

Opti Spark I Have Just Changed Mine , 95 T/a 6 Speed Car Was Starting Intermittent . Changed Now Car Ran 10 Miles Died Will Only Crank No Fire . Did The Change Help You And Where Didi You Buy Yours. Orielys ,mine
