Default Cam Help

I was wondering i have a 97 ta with minor bolt-ons. I was wondering what is the biggest cam i can put in it and which is the best brand.I read that when u go to a much bigger cam u need computer tuning i am wondering what would be the best gain in performance and of course sound love the way a cammed engine sounds without losing drivability cause its my daily driver!!!!

Tuning is needed with any cam change IMHO, tuning could be usefull even with a stock cam. A bigger than stock cam may also require a stall change. The GM 846, hotcam and CC305 are all good all around cams.

tuning=adjusting your timing, air/fuel ratios, and other engine calibrations thru the use of software such as LT1edit or some other type of software that will allow you to 'talk' to your cars computer. If you are new to this I would pay to have it done by a reliable shop or you can run the risk of really screwing your car up! And yes you will probably have to have your computer tuned if you do any type of power adder if you want to get the most gain/performance out of it.

If your car is a daily driver, and automatic and you are not looking for huge amounts of power, you probably want to stick with a smaller cam. Some notable cams are in order of size the CC304,LT4 Hot Cam (not my favorite) and the CC305. Of the three cams, the Hot Cam is going to be the lopeiest cam since it has the tightest LSA.

or you can go all out, like im working on and go with a 108LSA and run like a scalded dawg.... and it sounds alot meaner, but alot more mods and tuning required as well.
