Intake powder coating, Is this guy lying??
I want to get my Intake powder coated, and the guy that does it told
me the intake has to be polished for it to be smooth. I've read on other
forums of people who have gotten their Intake powder coated and all they
did was sand blast them, then coat, and they claim it came out perfect.
Is this guy trying to make a killing off me?? Or do they really polish them
before coating?? I want a black Intake. I know I can rattle can it, but want
powder coating instead.
Do I look for someone else to do it?? or is it true about polishing??
THANKS ALL-

you can powder coat a rock if you wanted... it will just look like a rock still, if you polish it, it will have that flat mirror finish, if not, you can still powder coat it, but it will be rough looking like the finish on the metal, basically like if you paint it, but lots thicker is all.

if you dont sandblast and there has been paint or crap on there thats been there for a while, it kinda messes up the bakin process...I've done powdercoating for a while.....I have also not blasted parts and they have came out ok.....but they dont need to be polished but I would sand.

You can also put more than one coat of powder coat on and it will hide aot of the ruffness in the metal. I do powder coating at my shop and thats what I do when I do brake calibers. Hope this helps thanks Matt

Bob Is well known on the Impala SS forum (sorry it's down right now) He's located in IL.
He's the guy who does the powdercoating on those stock rebored TBs you'll find Matt Blum Selling on Ebay
This is not one of Bob's intakes, but as you can see the coater was lazy. If you look you can see the guy coated the ports for the TB along with the whole mounting surface for the TB. IMO that's a bad idea because of all the extra sand and stuff that can get trapped inside the intake.
I'm still looking for a pic of Bob's intakes he does.
