Default What does it take to hit 12's??

Hey guys, I just joined a few days ago and im lookin to turn my WS6 into a mid-high 12 second car. This is what I had in mind soo far and please add your comments on what you would change or add to my list. I was thinkin a set of Hooker LT's, ORY, and catback, CAI, 58mm TB, 3.73 gears, MSD, LT4 hotcam kit with 1.6rr or something a little more aggressive, and maybe a 3200 stall converter and a good tune?? I would like to hit high 12's NA and maybe later down the line pick up a 100 shot. Im not new to drag racing, but im new to the LT1's and the more advice the better...

Thanks,
Tom

What he said ^ . I went with 373's and have regreted not going with 410's ever since
Edit. I just realised you have an auto , stick with the 373's

Dont even bother with a bigger tb. That money can be spent elsewhere. Your other choises look good though.

One thing You did not mention was a set of drag radials or slicks, unless You plan on running 12's on street tires.

You should really do some more research on what cam you want. There are many other options that offer bigger gains then the Hotcam for Lt1's. It would be pointless to touch your throttle body unless you are maxing its power out, and if you are planning on running mid 12's, thats pretty far from it. A gm 847 or cc306 will get you into the twelves with a big stall and a good tune, some guys are doing it with stock untouched heads.

Hey guys thanks for all the advice. Ill probably just port the TB myself and maybe port the heads a little bit while im at it. I think im gonna just go with the Hooker LT's, ORY, and catback, 3.73s, MSD, PCMforless tune, and a stall converter. When im finished with all the bolt-ons, would you go cam or 100 shot first?? I think the 100-125 shot would be the more effective bang for the buck before the cam would be. And yes I do plan on running DR's in the furture but for now ill be running street tires.

Thanks again,
Tom

I don't think there is anything gained from an MSD ignition, if you're looking into using an ignition box for nitrous then the Mallory 685 is a much better option. Also porting the stock TB requires changing/enlarging the blades. Other than that you're on the right track.

I run low,low 12's with the following

GM 847
stock 3.23 gears
Ebay restalled 3k converter
corvette servo- longer accum pin, stiffer 1-2 accum spring
dynatech LT's, true duals, Moroso Sprial bullets and dumps before the axle
ported stock TB, stock butterfly dia.
Ported Descreened MAF
CAI
Nitto DR's
Spring spacers in the rear springs
PCMFORLESS adjusted by me with tunercats

So far best times are 1.794 60' 7.89 1/8@89.62

Heads are bone stock as is the Suspension, I think the hot cam is fine but every one seems to ditch it and go bigger so I went big to start with and can honestly say that I am very happy, my next cam when I port the heads will be bigger. This car was my daily driver till I got deployed.

How does the 847 work with stock heads? Does it still have the nasty idle?

Thanks again guys. Do you guys think its possible with LTs, ORY, catback, ported TB, 3.73, a 125 shot, and a good tune would clip high 12's with proper traction?? And how safe is running a 125 shot on stock internals and do you think a shift kit is worth the $100 bucks?? Im gonna do more research on the cams and see which one best suits my setup and ill go from there, but I think im gonna pick up a nos kit before a cam...

How has that worked for you?

I was looking at those but I wondered about the quality since they were so dirt cheap.

If it works that is a killer deal though.

You should be running low 12s or better with a 125 shot.

I found it quite easy to get into the 11s....
It all depends on what you want the car to do for you.
