Default Head/Cam swap prices

Just curious for those of you who have heads/cam, how much did you pay to have them installed professionally if thats the route you went? Im trying to find out how much it would cost to have heads/cam/headers/rods/rockers/timing chain installed.

Well what you need to do is price out the parts.

Cyl. Heads- Casting (LT1, LT4, TFS, AFR), what sort of porting will be done to it.

Rockers- Comp cam pro mags, crane, GMPP. You just need to decide SA or NSA

Pushrods- Get them matched to the rockerset up your running

Timing Chain- Depending on the setup, you can run stock, a lunati (which is stock sprocket and upgraded chain), or depending if your optispark is vented and your running.

Cam- off the shelf or custom

Springs/lifters- SPrings certainly need to be changed if stock, lifters, if they are stock and have a ton of miles, splurging for new ones would be a good idea.

Header- your choice, just need to know if emissions are a factor.

Tuning- you need it, decide on a mail order or dyno tune.

Gaskets- Head, intake, timing chain cover, waterpump etc etc.

As far as parts, i wouldnt be surprised if your not in the 3,000$ range, most of it is in the cyl heads and the porting that would be needed to see the full potential of the cam. I am also assuming you got the bolt on parts like CAI, and a cat back exhaust.

Then labor..... what you need to do is find a good shop ask them to quote it, it wont be cheap. If you can do your own work, do it, its cheaper and you learn about the motor. Again shop rates can vary, and I wouldnt be surprised if they whack you 1000-1500 in labor.

Also you may want to consider a new opti and waterpump.

I know a local shop here does the entire thing for $5500, that includes the parts and labor

That's a sweet website Bob. Even though I am in Jersey, when I sell my LT1 for an LS1 within the next year or two, and really start to tear into the engine, I will probably make my way out there and make a small vacation out of it. Just curious, does the shop do torque converter installs?

One thing I dont get is that your looking to mod your LT1 which is fine but will cost some money and then your looking to switch to a LS1, which is fine. I wold just say, save your money and spend it on the LS1. These kind of mods are for a car that I would hope you woulddrive for a while, not just up and sell.

Yea the more I think about it, the less I want to spend on my car. I think im just going to port my TB and get a mail-order tune from madz28 and just hope that keeps me occupied enough until I get my ls1...
