My starter is on it's way out and I was wondering if any gm small block starter would work in it's place? I think i have one sitting around some place, but I'd rather not risk grinding if at all possible. Smaller & lighter is always better.

go with lt4 starter

 

you could spend outragous money on an LT4 starter, which in reality isnt that much different than the LT1 starter i would get an aftermarket high torque starter.. something made for your car... mines on its way out too. that will be in the near future

 

Just for reference, you can pickup an LT4 starter (p/n 10455709) for $210.29 from gmpartsdirect.com. Guys are going with an LT4 starter as it's smaller (lighter) and has more torque than the LT1 starter. But do a search and you'll find what guys have been going with aftermarket wise for around $150 I believe.

 

Had mine rebuilt for high torque specs for around $50.

 

Just get another stock one wih a life time warranty from auto zone, the LT1 starter already is prety light, I had a high torque after market one and it crapped in a year.

 

I'm told the LT4 starter also won't fit with Hooker Long Tubes installed. Just FYI.

 

LT4 starter from auto zone cost me 100 bux. I love it.

 

I'd just get it rebuilt. It will cost you less than $100.
