I am personally running the hotcam and its a great cam even if its old technology but I wish I would have went with a bigger cam and will go bigger in the future. The hotcam has great streetability and is a good sleeper grind. I say with a heavily modded car this is not the cam of choice and the GM847 should be chosen. IMO, the hotcam compared to the 847 is not comparing apples to oranges as previously mentioned.

It was repairable, he only ripped the front right quarter off and part of the door, nothing internal was hurt as far as I know

ditto, like comparing the cc304 to the cc306...there is such a difference in lift numbers that you couldnt even use the lt4 springs with the 847

the gm847 has been around just as long as the hot cam so the old technology is bs.

personally i think there both old, people are making way more power with similar sized custom cams.

Nothing wrong with a hotcam. I just don't want to have to put another cam in once I get bigger heads. I'm too lazy for that. I do lose a little gas mileage but if your worried about gas then you bought the wrong car

Pointless comparison as already stated.

This is like a poll asking whether you should port the TB or install a turbo.

I never said the GM847 was a current grind, I just stated that the hotcam was old tech. since it is the one that I currently have. Geez....

When did he say that it wasn't? He never said that. He said he would have PREFERRED a bigger cam to the Hotcam.

Custom cams are not that expensive, generally only ~$100 more to get the right one, the 1st time. Works out cheaper than most that go through at least two before they're happy

You can get the Crane Version PN 109841 from either summit or jegs... Or you can get it from gmpartsdirect.com Pn 12370847 the only difference is price the Crane version is cheaper. Your going to need new springs, lifters, pushrods, locks and retainers, guide plates to start. Other bolt on upgrades like injectors, Tb, timing set & 1.6:1 rockers are a option and can only make the cam perform better.

OFF TOPIC but Nice vette man, I don't see too many in my area that year that look as good. LT1 or LT4 from the factory?

I would never ever buy a cam and then hae my heads ported, I would have my heads done and then have a custom made cam to go with my setup. Get everything you can outta it thats my thinking.

My car is a daily driver, and I after put on some headers, I'll probably get an LT4 Hotcam and 1.6 RR's. What else should I add to complement the cam and roller rockers? - springs? This would be a good cam for someone like me, as I want my car to maintain driveability yet make some decent numbers.

The kit will come with new springs, so if it was me i would do a stall, gears and a dyno tune.
