Default Electric Water + Opti Spark = ??QUESTIONS?? have you done one. . .?

Hay wzup people… I have a 94 z28 ( LT1 of course) and water pump recently went bad and I purchased an electric water pump (a Meziere to be exact) and I was decided that I will replace my opti spark (complete Distributor Cap and Rotor ) at the same time. . . My question to you is how do you properly install the opit?? I was looking to save money so that I can purchase my spoiler... I know the water pump is like 6 bolts or so... But I've been hearing horror stories about people installing opti's and having problem with the car starting and things like that. I'm sure a few of you have done this before... Is it worth doing you self and saving the $4 to $500???

*(& yes I’ve searched the boards)*

The opti has a dowl pin that is splined, be sure to line up the splines correctly. If should not be forced on, it should simply slid right in place.

I use the link posted above for the EWP installs.

The 'kit' is up to you, I normally go to local parts stores and buy my wiring, relay, and fuse holder.

Actually the 92-94 (like he has) are the easiest to get installed wrong. they use a splined shaft with an index spline to drive the opti. This shaft wears over time and can very esily be installed in the wrong position. IF the shaft does not pull out of the timing gear durring the operation it helps some. if it does one might want to get down there with a mirror and a flash light to make sure you get the master spline in right then you just need to make sure you get the master spline in the opti right when you install it

good luck!

If you're not taking the timing cover off, I wouldn't worry about it. I just got a stock replacement chain when I built mine.

I bought my water pump off Ebay so I didn't have any of the relay stuff. So what I did was robbed one of my relays out of my fuse box under the hood (I believe it's an ABS relay) and just used it. If you're not using ABS then I think it's a great use of resources. I didn't wire in a fuse and I haven't had any problems yet.
