Default which stall converter??

everything i have done to my car is in my sig..im planning on doing 3.73s in a month or too also so what streetable stall converter should i look for that i can expect some pretty big gains from in the 1/4?.. p.s. this IS my daily driver so not a massive stall i was kindof thinkin along the lines of 2800-3200
thanks in advance..

3200 would be pretty high for a stock motor, intake, rear end gears. Unless your pushing ALOT of ponies or have a bigger motor (383 and up) and have 3.73s or up you wouldnt wanna go any higher then 2800.

So I would say 2600, MAYBE 2800 the highest.

Higher stalls are more specific for drag racing only. Go any higher then 2800 could begin to comprimise your MPG, and daily driving communabilty. (I think thats a word) and normal street driving. So if you want a good street/strip Id advise a 2600.

Also I wanted to add this many people sell BUILT heavy duty 4L60E trannys on ebay, they come with a shift kit and stall convertor of your choice they range from 800-1k for a price tag. Depending on your stock tranny mileage/what you plan to do with your car you might wanna go with one of these they can handle safely over 700 hp. For a good convertor youll pay over 500 alone (500 for convertor and 500 for a builty tranny aint bad at all), I recommend Vigilante but they come with a steep price 700+ dollars.

Buy a $1000 tranny and converter off Ebay and you are getting a poorly built tranny with blocked accumulation and other such ignorance and a 12" converter that if is a high stall will drive like crap.

Do it right and get a 9.5" converter like Edge Yank Vigilante have heard Fuddle and West Coast are good too and you can get great drivability in a 2800-3200. I have a 2800 Edge and it drives MUCH better than the 2600 Level 10(brand) I had before and runs cooler, both 9.5" units. My car is heavier and I have numerically lower gears so if anything it drives worse than yours will with the same stall and deeper gears yet it is still fine for the wife to take to get groceries. She has even taken her mom and sister shopping and to pickup Grandma, luckily they didn't buy much as the trunk was full of 28X10.50 ET Drags . Those with older experiance with high stalls will tell you they are bad for the street, those of us that have spend $500+ for one of the brands I mentioned will tell you they are one of our best mods yet they can affect in town milage but on the highway lockup just like stock.

Oh car is also mellow enough to tow a small boat 5-600miles over Labor Day weekend through central Wisconsin, 55mph roads dotted with towns to slow you to 25mph.

2800 is about as low as I would recommend great combination of drivabilty and track performance.

Becarefull, i rebuilt my tranny and i bought a so call HP torque converter they advertise it can handle 500 hp.
long story short less then 2000 mile and it messed up, it started making noise,s i bealy made it home, metal shavings in my fuild i had to tear my tranny apart and rebuild it.
i was lucky the E-bay store gave me back my $$$ for the converter but what a pain.

If your looking for best bang for the buck, not many can argue with http://www.fuddleracing.com They have there performance converters priced at like $400 bucks, great product, warranty, customer service... the works. 3k is a good choice, sometime... if I ever have the money, I will be ordering a 3k stall from them as well. Vig, Yank etc. are more pricey, and Fuddle makes quality converters, hard to say if they are better or not... but there aren't many complaints, and the price is tuff to beat.

Most will agree that you will want a tune, mail-order would probably be a good option for you. Check out PCM For Less and Madz28. Unless you feel like buying a power programmer which is kinda tuff sometimes, or getting an expensive dyno tune, which I would only do if your going to be pushing 400+ HP or so.

Vig and Yank cost more due to a billet cover, so you are getting more for that extra few hundred dollars, thing is that it is unnecessary for the vast majority of us so while you are getting more it is not something that will actually be useful.

I would recommend a custom tune be it mailorder or in person, this is mostly to get rid of annoyances like a surging idle while the pcm looks for load in gear. Hypercrap can't properly take care of this sort of thing, it is basically "one size fits all" but with a few color options, not to mention custom tuning is cheaper.

If your looking for bang for the buck you can't go wrong w/ a fuddle.. but if your looking for a great verter i'd go yank.. if you have some dollars to spare.. both are proven performer's..

I have ran a Vigi 3200 in my 93 for the past 3 or 4 years now, the converters great and is very streetable. Gasmileage didnt change much at all if any.

Never dealt with Fuddle, but the Vigi I bought used for 415 off the boards. They say .5 off your times and thats exactly what I got with mine.

3200 is fine on a stock motor. 3500+ is questionable. Go for a 3000-3200. That's what I'm getting with 3.73's or 4.10's and hopefully I'll get at least .8 off with some slicks.

I dropped .8 with the edge on street tires and that included dropping down to 87 octane programming too. Those are more than average results though, I had done the cam before the converter so the car "needed" it more. Last night I ordered another Edge to go with a new combo, could have had him rework the existing one but am debating putting it in the wagon.
