the transmission doesn't have any correlation to the cam you run, other than the fact you'll need an aftermarket stall to run a significantly larger cam, and a set of rear end gears. think about it, old muscle cars ran 3 speed automatics with cams on 106 and 108 lsa. what cam are you looking into?

No he just go BAD INFO. The ONLY way I would consider 114 on the available aftermarket grinds is if for a blower or maybe nitrous. Generally that is used as a crutch for when some dumbass wants too big a cam but wants it to idle OK so they spread the lobes as a crutch and they get soso performance but are happy because they got a big cam. Most of the aftermarket offerings are 112 which is fine auto or manual. You get into the custom stuff and they are often less 108-111 and make GOOD power. This is all ignoring the fact that LSA should be arrived at as a result of lobe placement and is not a spec that should be predetermined as is generally done . Now even after saying that, if looking at off the shelf grinds go with something 112. The off the shelf grinds are speced to compensate for the general lack of in depth knowledge MOST have on the subject and are made to error on the side of comfort over power. 112 is usually already too far for best power 114 is usually an outright mistake.
I am just begining to learn the real in depth stuff on cams and really hope SStrokerace or the like pop in on this question.

I like the 106, 108, 110. Gotta love to hear a camed car. Loyd Elliott and Bret Bauer done the custom cam for my 396. Its gonna hit a mean lick when i get it together.

Take the same duration and lift and put a 114 against a 112 LSA, the difference will be loss of torque from idle until about 3500 rpms. 114's are for boost applications.

112 and lower are great for N/A (as long as you got the compression). its compression that makes power.

As for nitrous, stick with a grind that your going to run most of the time with, 112 would be fine.

264/270 @ .050" .631" on a 110 LSA with only a tight 3800 converter, no problem.

Before GM-847s became the hot-item like Hotcam did years back I installed the 847 on my stock cubed (6spd) but found several who also installed it on their (auto) with great results. It's a 112lsa straight up install cam from Crane with great results, like the Comp-306 and some similar others. The difference between 112 vs 114 in an auto I don't think is major for track performance E/Ts especially in a mildly modded car.

good luck

Because the LT1 equiped B-body cars require more torque to move, the factory decided to stick a 111 LSA cam in them.
