Race Gas 103 oct. on Stock Motor
I have a 96 Trans Am with some mods unknown to me a raced an evo 1 and I beat him once and he beat me once both, were unfair races but real close, Im going back tommorow to race him again. I wanna make sure I win, is it ok to use race gas in my motor?
Is there any other things that I could do to make my car faster for one night?

I wouldn't think you would need it to take an Evo, my car is mainly stock... but I took an 04 Evo twice. Maybe I was just lucky at the time, justbe careful racing on the streets. When race, we go out into the country, late at night with minimal chances of seeing other cars, and we have people at the end of the course to make sure nothing is inbetween us at all.

That said you are wrong. Injuneer on the other board with a BUILT motor did a lot of dyno testing with full tuning and stopped gaining power at 94 octane. If there is no knock retard more octane will gain you nothing. As far as advancing timing a "programmer" is the wrong way to go about this. Get custom tuning like pcmforless, Ed Wright or madz28.com for 91-3 octane whatever you have local.
Depending on the exact race gas you could destroy the O2s and cats, they don't like lead.
Now with a built race motor higher octane can help you make more power but it IS NOT due to the octane, it is due to the compression you can run without detonation with that higher octane, that is why race gas on a stock motor is pointless.

That is true but fact of the matter is still octane only helps if it is needed to keep detonation at bay.
There are several different chemicals they can use to up octane a few of them commonly available as "paint thinners" and are mid 11X range for octane, wouldn't run them alone but can be blended with gas IF you need more octane, pump gas can even contain some depending on what local regulations are.

Well, there was a 2002 Ford Lightning at our local track that improved 1/4 mile times just by switching to 103 octane. I can't remember the exact time it was running, but it was constant until the switch to 103, which I remember cut the time by .35 on several passes... Common sense tells it did improved its power band....... Truck is stock except for exhaust... 5.4L SC....

104 Octane in a nearly bone stock 96 TA
In a way I can agree with race fuel being needed for a built motor, but hey, guess what, I ran 104 Octane in my 96 M6 TA and saw great improvement. Yes detonation is kept at bay by the PCM, but it does this by retarding the timing, which does what? Makes you lose power!!!!!!! If your car is running hot, or it's a hot day, it's more prone to detonation and the higher octane fuel is going to help keep the PCM from having to retard your timing. It's a little expensive, but it's worth it in the long run for the few extra ponies you'll get out of it. I think I paid like $5 a gallon for it about 2 years ago so I'm sure the price has gone up since then.

There was a complete study about acetone as a fuel additive... it was mentioned in that study/article that acetone would also raise Octane points, plus give off a cleaner burn, being cleaner to the air and emissions. Sorry for getting off topic.....

I think I remember reading an article about that too, problem there is that a gallon of acetone is like 7 or 8 dollars :S Of course, I guess you could put 1 gallon of acetone to 5 gallons of 91 octane pump gas and probably bump your octane up to over 100.
