Default Broken header bolt!!!!

i just found out the bolt, the very last one(closest to the firewall) is not there and is broken flush with the head. i read that headers dont use the first and last bolts on the stock manifolds? i just want to know if pacesetters long tubes use the stock bolt holes or the other ones.

I don't have the last bolt in because the hole is crossthreaded and I need to have it repaired. I'm getting an exhaust leak. I'm not sure how much performance is lost by a manifold leak, but I sure don't like it. You should just get some ARP bolts, the heads are much smaller, and they won't rust and they are durable to really torque them down.

Yeah get it out, that shouldnt be to hard to get out on the passenger side. The driver side is a biatch, well more of a biatch than the passenger side. Tapping it out shouldn't take to long just as long as you have a good drill and drill bit. Oh it will be rough on the back though !!!!

For me, the passenger side was the hardest..The drivers side was cake.

try getting a left handed drill bit. They work like a charm. It turns the bit to the left, so as you dill, the remainder of thebolt walks right out.

Go purchase a left hand drill bit set. Oh yeah, you will need a 90 degree drill as well due to the fact that there is no room. Once you drill the hole, if the bolt doesn't come out by with the drill bit, you then install the easy out into the hole of bolt you just drilled. Hope this helpes.

It is easiest to get a left handed drill bit. I went through the same thing a few months ago. I drill and tapped, and ended up busting the the easy out in the hole I drilled. HA... Cant drill that out. I ended up taking off the head and having it lazered out... Just be careful and dont mess up as bad as I did...

I have taken several broken bolts out of the LT1 heads(in the car) the best way I have found is to hold a nut over the offending bolt and MIG weld it through the hole in the nut when it cools a little use a wrench to thread it out....WORKS EVERY TIME.... But if you are not a welder................ Anyway, No the Pacesetter headers don't use the very last hole. They, like most headers use the inside hole the one closest to the exaust port. Also I have These headers , and am very please with them.
Hope this helps you....

Question I have the same problem times two!

Both of the rear bolts on my exhaust manifolds are busted off. I can only tig weld and I don't have a welder so that tecnique won't work for me. What type of headers are these that I can use without that bolt? Are all or most headers this way? if they don't have a hole where the broken bolt is then could the broken end of the bolt sticking out a bit potentially interfere with the header?

Also, how did some of you guys drill the broken bolts out without messing up the threads? I don't see how you could see well enough to aim the drill straight.
