160 or 180 Thermostat?
160 or 180 Thermostat? I have a HyperTech 160 Degree Thermostat in my car, and it works perfectly. My temp is always below 160, and rarly even gets near 160. But, the heater in my car also takes quite ahwhile to warm up. And even then, it doesn't get very warm. I was wondering if a 180 degree Stat would help this problem, or if it was just a Heater Core problem or something of that nature?
Does the extra 20 degrees really make a performance difference?

I'd say leave it alone, doubt you'd see a dyno difference honestly, and in the summer in TX 160 or 180 stat doesn't amount to a hill uh beans. Adding a big dual 1" core radiator kept me @170 with the AC on sitting in Houston traffic.

& keep adding performance parts Just because the thermostat is 160* doesn't mean the engine runs at 160*. I run about 175-180 with the 160* thermostat with reprogrammed fans. 160* thermostats won't do much w/o a tune to help the fans to work with the thermostat. Our cars may run with 180* thermostats, but the engine *stock* usually runs between 200-215 normally with normal conditions.

i just put a 160 in mine and it runs at about 170-180 but my heater works great. sounds like you might have other problems. how well does your AC work. if i were you i'd slap on a CAI or ram air, keep the 160 in there in the summer when you dont use the heater and in the winter pop in a 180, it takes like 2 minutes to change it. just some ideas.

In the winter my heat doesn't ever get warm like it use to since 160 degree thermostat and fans. That is because it never gets warmed up enough to pump out good heat. I decided the stock setup was too much for me awhile back when I was sitting in traffic on a mild spring day and I was almost getting to the peg on the temp guage which is very bad for your motor.
