Default adjustable torque arm

i just got a nice torque arm from umipreformance

http://www.umiperformance.com/2202.aspx

i really don't know how to set the torque arm up it came with instructions but i don't want to buy a angle finder. i was curious if there is a way to do it without a angle finder.

any help would be appreciated

Yeah, its called "guess"

Its a suprisingly small measurement though, so you really do need the angle finder. Too much angle can do bad things to U-joints and cause funky vibrations.

I'm suprised UMI doesn't just pack one with the torque arm. My Spohn adj. torque arm came with a pretty decent angle finder and instructions on how to setup pinion angle.

There is actually nothing to complain about, we do not state we have free angle finders with the purchase. If we sold our torque arm for higher prices such as the competition we could then throw in free in stuff such as the angle finder.

We do have them here we can sell for cheap but we do not have them for free.

Hope that helps,
Ryan

o ok. I personally have the umi products on my car (LCA and panhard bar) and they are very nice peices, top notch! I figured since angle finders were cheap they should be included.

From a sales/marketing perspective including an inexpensive anglefinder with a kit like (most companies do) wouldn't make or break your bottom line. I too think you have a nice product (compliment) but chose another much stronger setup based on my build. The reply to the poster about complaining isn't a bad thing necessarily, customer feedback perceived constructively with a good company can likely produce positive results.

What you have is nice dude, much stronger would be like what Madman, BMR & Wolfe carries as an option, they have a stronger unit with a cross-brace which welds to welded-in subframes.

sucks about the fitup, you shouldn't have to grind off their nice coating (defeats it's purpose). Surely they build these with a jig spec'd out to the rear-end. Do you have a 9 or 12 bolt or stock 10?

Hello,

Yes I totally understand customer feedback and suggestions, I just think of that as feedback like you said rather then a complaint. If we would have stated that something free was to be added in the package and it was not then I totally understand complaining. However I feel, if the customer *thinks* something should be added but isn't then that is feedback and shouldn't be considered a complaint. That is my opinion at least. We do like feedback and we appreciate it.

As for the angle finder, what I was trying to state was to add the free angle finder we would need to raise the price of our torque arms $10.00 each in order to include that for free. If you notice most to all of our items are priced very resonable and you will also notice all our torque arm set-ups are priced from $40.00-$60.00+ cheaper then are our competition. If we charged the higher prices as our competitors then adding the free angle finder would be no problem.

Here is a perfect example and I usually don't like to mention other company names but I will in this example. SLP sells a transmission mounted torque arm very similar to our transmission mounted set-up for $399.99 while the same torque arm can be purchased from UMI for $289.99, thats a $110.00 price difference. If we charge $399 for our torque arm I could throw in 5 free angle finders, heck I would even throw in 10 free ones. I hope you understand the point I am trying to state. I understand it would be a nice feature but I would really rather not raise our prices at this time. Some are willing to pay the extra $10 for that angle finder and some would complain of the price increase, its a lose/lose situation.

Anyways, hope that helps

Ryan

So whats the big deal, just go and get an angle finder on your own. It really is not rocket science. UMI does it this way if you don't like it pay the extra 60 dollars and have a 60 dollar angle finder included. Plus 90% of the time people getting T/A installed are going to have it done at a performance shop that will set it up for you anyway. UMI and there products are class act and there products are affordable and durable, for the price they are the best bang for your buck. All this over a 10 $$ angle finder. Go find a way to make power to break your T/A before worrying about a 10 $ piece.
