i have a 1994 trans am....so i'm driving back to school from spring break.....i'm about 600 miles away from school and the car starts cutting out really bad and then when i'm in the middle of a downpour it dies......i pull over and it started right back up and ran but it ran like hell.....my buddies are behind me and they said it was smoking like a diesel and smelled like fuel really bad....but only when i get on it. The service engine light came on and off all day long but never stayed on for more than 30 mins.....the car finally came out of it and ran alright, but its still smoking really bad...what do u guys think the problem would be?

Second, what color is the smoke? blue, blackish...etc?
Blue means you probably fried a ring due to lack of spark/fire, and if you keep driving it, those pieces of ring will cause big problems.
STOP driving it, baby it to a Auto store and get it computered. Its free

If your 02 sensor is malfunctioning, it is sending corrected data to your PCM ( computer ).
Because the part itself is malfunctioning, the data its sending to your PCM is incorrect.
This incorrect data makes the CPU try and counter it, resulting in a leaner, or richer mixture.

Have you ever drove a 2 stroke? ( Example = Yamaha Banshee ) A 2 cycle engine actually mixes the gas with the oil to lubricate the cylinder. Thus, causing blueish smoke to appear all the time, even when warm. This is prefectly normal for a 2 stroke.
Your car is a 4 stroke, and the gas and oil DO NOT MEET one another.
The smallest shakeup in : air/gas/oil :, caused by, faulty fuel injector, worn seals, crack in line, malfunctioning part etc... can and will cause big changes in the way your car runs.
Buy a new O2 sensor and try it then.
