Well the EGR and AIR put used exhaust gases back into the intake at low load cruising type speeds. So they can heat up the gases going in which of coarse can heat the intake and make you lose some power. But your gas mileage will go down, dont know how much but it will.

the only benefits are wieght reduction which isent much, easier to change plugs, and a cleaner looking engine bay which was why i did it.

same as chris77. i actually am runnin into another problem now. the tube that runs from one side or another wont come out. i figure if i took the cut off wheel and cut through it i could pull it out both sides but its still gettin hung on the passenger side header. i just put new gaskets on and i dont want to take it off and risk the chance of having to buy another gasket when they only come in packs of 2. can anybody help?

The reason I'm asking is because I got new headers with the EGR and AIR ports. Everything is all connected, but now the engine's throwing a code saying EGR flow malfunction, which in-turn is causing a random misfire, which in-turn is throwing a BLINKING SES light, which means my emissions parts are at risk of being damaged. I would think the simple and obvious fix would be to just remove it. However, will my engine run worse without the EGR?

I'm also thinking about deleting the A.I.R. because now that I have headers, the AIR check valves are creating a ticking/chugging noise. From the research I've done, this constant fluttering burns up the check valves and causes all sorts of problems. Are there A.I.R. restrictor plates for the LT1? Will my engine run worse without A.I.R.?

The air pump only runs for like 2 minutes when you first crank the car, won't effect anything to remove it. However w/ a 97 you'll throw the SES light if you remove it, need to have it tuned out of the PCM. Same w/ EGR.

If you're getting an EGR system code thrown at you maybe you didn't get the EGR hooked up just right after the header install (assuming they are newly installed), or maybe the EGR valve is just acting up. If you don't have a emissions test that requires a tailpipe sniffer I'd just have someone like Madz28 or PCM4Less retune your computer and remove those systems while they're at it. Then you can just rip them out and use block off plates/plugs on the headers.

You'd benefit from a mail order tune anyway, really made my car run alot smoother and feel a little peppier when I got mine (Madz28 email tune package) with similar mods to what you have (headers, gutted cat, CAI, etc).

You just have to mess with it, took me a min to get it out, I cut it off with a Dremel as well. That stuff doesn't like to bend either...

I Think when I took mine out, I still had my alternator out, which helped, and I wasn't looking to keep my tube for future use so I bent the hell out of it and got it out eventually.

Well I replaced the EGR valve today, which was actually quite an easy job. It ended up that the old EGR valve wasn't shutting all the way. This new one is sealed off tight, so I'm expecting good things to come in the future. I also made some little restrictor plates for the A.I.R. Hopefully this should solve everything. Thanks for all the responses guys!

My 97 never threw an SES light--not sure why you singled that one out.

BTW, it's waaay easier to change the plugs without all that stuff in the way!

OBDII cars are supposed to throw a code w/ the AIR disabled. On the earlier OBDI cars as long as the fuse for the AIR stuff remains intact it won't throw a code (I know mine doesn't, a 94). That's just what I've read elsewhere, suppose it could be incorrect and it's the same w/ OBDII cars.

My is a 96 TA and when I took mine out it never set off any codes either, at least there isn't a check engine light comming on. And I've had mine off for about 5000 miles with no trouble. As far as the check valves, just take them off and put some hydraulic cap plugs on the ends of the tubes. It doesn't look all that pretty, but it's way better than having the hoses and the check valves sticking up off of them.

you should throw it on a scanner if you havnt since then just to be on the safe side. its possible the little light in the dash died, which will throw a code itself but you'l have no way of knowing. I didnt know till i went to get inspected

I took my egr and all that off to. I had issues w/getting the tube out , but i found if u remove the bracket on the passenger side under the header and play with the tube a little it will come out.

I also have the alternator relocated and no a/c , p/s , or any accesories for that matter !
