Its true 1000 goes a long way with a cobra. As opposed to dropping 1000 on an lt1 will maybe get you the advertised HP.

I'll tell you what. I love LT1s, I have since I was a kid and I still do. But I'd take a stock '03-'04 Cobra over any stock fourth gen F-Body (except maybe an LS1-powered Firehawk).

Course once you crack open the motor, anything is possible.

SDM1234:

Both LT1s and LS1s were underrated. Real ratings would be closer to 305 fwhp for the LT1, and closer to 350 fwhp for the LS1.

In your shoes I'd probably get the Cobra. It's not worth it to buy an LS1 over an LT1 due to cost, but I'd buy a Cobra over an LT1 definetly. you can make 500+ hp on a stock blower
I seen tons of stock cobras at the track, and believe me they are a real good race for a stock LS1. Sure the cobras might dyno 360+rwhp stock, but they are tough to launch and are heavier. Just the other night I watched my friends nearly stock LS1 beat 2 different cobras at the track. Sure stock cobras definately have 12's in them, but most can only be driven to low 13's. There is one cobra at the track that hasn't been able to do better than 13.4, but sure he's more of the exception than the rule. It only takes a couple mods to make a cobra scream, so I'd definately say get one if you can. LS1's have come down alot in price though and so have aftermarket parts for them. I bought my 1 owner car for $8000. You can buy ported LS6 heads now for $900. Longtubes/y-pipe for $500 shipped. The LT1 is fast losing it's advantage as far as cheap parts is concerned. A stock LS1 is CLOSE in performance to a stock cobra, and offers great bang for the buck.

It is kind of unfair to compare a $7K car to a $20K+ car, we should get some more info, an LT1 with $20K in it will rape a Cobra, but so honestly its really up to you. But stock for stock the Cobra will rape the LT1, no questions out, I mean it would be pretty bad *** whooping too. You have more info on the 2 cars like prices and everything?

I would def. go with the Cobra of the cars your considering. They are a nice car, and do have soo much potential. However I must add that i have seen multiple 03+ Cobras vs. LS1 matchups and they were extremely close. Most did end up with the Cobra being victorious, but never was the LS1 raped. They have all been very close modded and stock.

You could say the same about the LT1 vs the Almighty LS1. I have beat my far share of LS1's. It all comes down to who can drive. I have seen LS1 run 14 GTO and FBodies.

This is bench racing at it's finest! Go to a track and see for yourself. The cobras might put 360 rwhp down, but are hard to launch and are HEAVIER. RWHP isn't everything. Fact is An LS1 is a VERY good race for a STOCK cobra at the track. Seen it time and time again!! No raping takes place!

I disagree. Have you considered blowing the LS1?

Are you sure about that? Consider that the WS6 LT1 was advertised at 305. So what is the real rating for the LT1 then? Also, from the LS1 being advertised at 325, to your figure of nearly 350 is quite a significant jump, which I find doubtful.

Now, you're saying the LS1 has roughly 40 more HP than an LT1, when there is only a 20 HP difference. Did you deduct from the LT1? lol

LS1 F-bodies '01-'02 have about 345-350 at the fly.

To answer the question at hand...

I would hands down take a '03 Cobra over a LT1. There is no comparison
between the two.

I won't even get into the LS1 vs. Cobra and LT1 vs. LS1 nonsense.

Did you read the previous posts? The advertised #'s are far from accurate. You have to compare dyno #'s and not advertised flywheel #'s. The #'s the LS1's put down on the dyno correlate with 350 ish RWHP.

You think so? In my opinion the last generation of Mustangs looked to stumpy, they looked like econo cars trying to act tuff, IMHO. The last mustangs that could look good were the late 80s early 90s

I raced an 03 cobra in my 96 ss when I had the gas on it and the cobra is damn fast. My car is a monster from say a 30 roll and this cobra not only kept dead even with me, once we got past 100 he started dragging my ***. I tried him again and my T-56 broke so that was a lesson learned.

03 Cobras are sweet, you cannot take anything away from them, with that being said. I've seen plenty of them run at the track and very rare is it to see one run in mid 12s.
