Default LT1 supercharged

so i'm lookin at gettin another lt1, 6speed, and i want to supercharge it. i was lookin at vortech and powerdyne. i liked powerdyne because it was around 2700 through jegs, but i've heard how they weren't that good. any suggestions on which way i should go. i also plan on either 3.73's or 4.10's, and full exhaust, (lt's and possibly duals). would i need to beef up anything for the sc, i think they both either come with a 4.5lb or 6 lb. pulley. also what kinda power numbers should i expect with this.

If you are going to go thru the works to supercharge your car, do yourself a favor and do not buy a Powerdyne. Buy a Vortech or Procharger.

Also, 4.10 gears are a very poor choice for a blown car. Blower cars rarely go with a gear lower than 3.73s.

Also, you will need a tune. Spend the $300-400 extra and make sure to get the car tuned for the blower. Start saving for a rebuild (forged) since your stock bottom end will most likely be damaged from the boost.

In all honesty, it would be better to do a head/cam setup if you cannot afford to rebuild your motor. It will make the same power (maybe a little more) than the blower setup on that boost level (~6psi) and it will be much safer.

Do a search on this topic for all the info you will need

What do you plan on doing with the car? Are you going to race it and drive it hard? If so, then the Powerdyne probably won't take the abuse and neither will your stock bottom end. If you just want the added power for an occasional blast, then the PD will work great. I put 42K miles on my PD 4.5 on my 93 Z28. But I never raced the car, ran stock exhaust manifolds with Borla y-pipe, SVO injectors, SLP chip(not tuned for the supercharger either) and the car ran great, passed emission's and towed my boat as well. Basically put, you either get the Powerdyne 4.5 and don't hammer the crap out of your car and it might last like mine did. Or, you get the Vortech or Procharger and get ready for the engine rebuild which will be needed when you blow the piston ringlands off. $2600 vs $5-7000.

i'm really just gonna use it as a weekend car and take it to the strip maybe twice a week or so. if i go heads and cam what would a good package be. i had the lt4 hotcam kit and i wasnt too impressed by it. my goal is mid to low 12's and still have a daily driver manner to it.

I don't think I've seen a legitimate blower car ever running a Powerdyne.

Jason is right, go Vortech or ATI. Paxton is decent as well, but I'd prefer the first two.

I did 409 rwhp with Powerdyne and bolt-ons. Charger has 25,000 miles and my buddies went on three different cars without issues. They are good for moderate boost levels.

I'm not saying the blower is good or bad. I'm just saying there are people in the 11's with it so that says alot for a budget blower.

I agree but with a blower there is alway room to grow by upping the boost. hci cars seem to get to a point before youve done all you can do without going to extreme.

I ran a vortech for about a year on my 94 Mustang, very good blowers never ever had a problem and I beat on it. Prochargers from what I've read are the best but there the most expensive. I would stay far away from powerdyne, I hear nothing but horror stories.

There's so many easier and better ways to get to 11s than with a Powerdyne blower. Or any blower for that matter.

i'm sorry i meant to say that it would be a primarily weekend car and i would take it to the track about 2 or 3 times a year. also would there be any way to get to mid 12's or so without a blower, nitrous, or h/c/i? or is that just wishful thinkin on an lt1?

Definitely, basic bolt-ons and suspension mods.
