Got an issue....purchased lt-1 edit last year for my 1994 z-28. The car was in storage for the winter and I scheduled a tune session last night. For the life of me I couldn't get the software to communicate with the laptop. Tried another computer and still nothing. Can anyone help?

 

Sounds like its software related... if your using a serial port connection on the computer, make sure the serial port is enabled... also check the properties in lt1 edit and look for the communication settings

 

I had the same problem. I went into the CMOS settings returned everything to default. That fixed mine. Don't know if that's your prob or not.

 

Can you give me a clue to what the CMOS is????????If I don't figure this out soon, I"ll have to resort to matches and lighter fluid!

 

Ive been having the same problem. But my Laptop did not come originally setup with serial (com) ports. So I bought a PCMIA card that had two of them. I now have com3 and com6 listed on my devices manager and neither works.
I lugged my desktop out into the garage and loaded the software onto it. Then everything worked flawlessly.

Here's some tidbits I found out that may help you.
-The Devices manager MUST list com ports with a designation of 1-4
-Before attempting to connect to the pcm, the correct com port needs to be selected in the edit software. You will be presented with a choice of Com1 through Com4.
-A good way to check your com hardware is to plug in an old com device and check its functionality.
-When hooking your cable up to the car you should get a light on the cable blinking steadily, then when attempting to connect with the laptop, you should see another light or two start blinking. If you dont get that second light blinking on your attempt to communicate, the problem is in the hardware/software setup on you laptop.

Changing CMOS settings did nothing for me.

 

cmos is the bootup hardware configuration screen. usually you hold down control or F8 or some other key to get to it when starting the computer.

You using a USB adapter to go from USB to RS232, and then to a serial-ALDL cable?

If so, I've found that about 90% of the USB-RS232 adapters don't work with ALDL software. The only ones that do work consistently are the Belkin F5U103 and the FTDI FT232BM based units.

If that's not the case, make sure infrared ports are disabled on the laptop, both in the CMOS and in Windows.

If it's one of my cables (AKM), I offer the 'laptop configuration' service... you send me the cable & laptop, I get it working, for the cost of return shipping. 100% success rate so far...

Actually, without looking I think it's F1 for setup. The shift F8 is for safe mode and other bootup options.

 

It depends on the system though I think. I've seen it be different things (especially on older ones).

 

No I take that back, I think it's F4... but I'm not gonna shut my comp down just to see. LOL.
