Default Washing your engine

Whats the most fragile part of washing our motors with water? The obvious one is the opti, but lets say that was covered up, what else would be a danger-zone from being exposed to water?

If it just isnt worth it to use water, how do you guys clean your engines? I mean there a shytload of dirt and grim down there!

Watch out for the Electronics and the wiring. Don't really hit the engine with a direct stream of water. I have oil all over mine from an old intake leak, but that adds character... lol

Get the engine decently warm, spray on a lot of degreaser, and lightly hose off after a few mins. Degreaser is $1 a can at walmart so don't skimp. I degreased my 93 Jeep 4.0 with 186k and the engine is 4x cleaner than my mom's 98 Jeep 4.0 with 65k miles.

I've put 2 of my LT1's through the pressure washer at the DIY car wash with no side effects, just be careful not to hit the electronics directly.

i use simple green and elbow grease, ive heard of a guy that uses simple green and a water hose, w/o a nozzle just directly out the hose as long as you dont directly spray the electronics and just keep water away from the opti you should be fine.

i messed up my throttle position sensor while cleaning my engine bay... not that big of a deal i think the new one was like 20 bucks at advance or auto zone but it did make for one hell of a ride to the auto parts store.

What electrics do you have to pay special attention to besides the Opti?

Don't get dad new socks or a grill brush this year.
