Default help with crane valve springs

i am trying to get these valve springs in, the part number is 10308-1.
do i use the stock spring seats or just remove them and put the shim that came in the kit in its place?

the reason i ask is i removed the stock spring and the new shim would not slide over the seal on the valve, so i know i will have to remove the seal

i really need some help here so i can get this put back together.

thanks brad

no it wont go but a local machine shop has done a valve job on them so that might be the defferince.
so you just removed the stock seat and put the shim in its place?

Back when I did that, i had to pull my seals off to get the shims on. If you have crane 1.6 rockers, better check the clearance at the retainer & underside of the rocker.

I had to machine for new seals and use a variety of shims to get the same height on all valves.

so what did you have to machine to put the new seals in ?
the kit that i purchased just came with a shim for each spring would i have to buy more shims?
the shim that i am talking about is the one that is about half way up on the valve i think it is caled a umbrella seal.
i was told that this kit is a derect bolt on
thanks for the help

You don't need to machine anything - it is a direct bolt-on. Just put the shims down, replace the OEM type seals and put the springs on. Now, if you want to do the job more correctly, you need to make sure the springs all have the same installed height (and even that won't insure all the springs have the same pressure) and that may require more shims. If you do that, just replace ALL those blue shims the kit comes with cause some guys have had those break under the springs. If you dress the springs top & bottom, the springs & shims will last longer. What some guys don't like about that arrangement is that the springs are not positively located at the base, so some have complained about the springs walking. I don't think I had that problem, but I had them on there only 3000 miles.
