car shutting off???? need help

Default car shutting off???? need help

my car keeps shutting off while driving. it will start back up but shut off again after a peroid of time. sometimes it wont even shut off. would that be the opti slowly going out????? please help thanks

It could be the opti but more likely the ignition switch (if it still runs strong when running).

yea it does run strong while running. how would i go about fixing this?

doesnt sound like and opti problem... but could be... i would check for codes first.. and if nothing there try the tap test on the MAF and PCM.. take a wrench like a 15mm or so and while its idling just tap on things to see what happens...
this is one way to find out if a PCM or MAF is bad... sometimes they short out in the inside and you can tap and see if there are any changes.. if nothing happens then it should be ok.. i have used this method several times and its never failed me...

i had this problem before... before you try what everyone else is saying try this. there is all the ground wires coming from the battery on the passenger side and they connect in a little red oval there are quite a few wires connected there. see if the nut ontop is loose. tighten it down and see if that fixes it. if not then try everyone elses fixes

well i tried the tap test and checked all the grounds.. so should i assume that its the ignition switch???

Sounds maybe like a bad battery too.. take it into like auto zone for free and get it tested!

mine did that it was the coil it would only shut off sometime when i was driving
switched coils with my dads z and it hasent shut off in two years since i have done it.

yeah it could be the coil or ICM as well as the ignition switch.

I am fighting it right now and we tracked it back to the Opti The ONLY thing re-used in the new ignition! I have a MSD billet Coming

im having the same problem, my car wont even turn over now and my ignition switch where the key goes in kinda sticks out a bit

im gonna change all the little things like coil, icm, and all that before i change the opti.

ok so i changed the coil and let the car run for a while and it still shut off. got a cheap code reader and it said direct ignition fault, does that mean opti bad?
