4l60e or 700r4
Well just got the car back and the tranny is TOAST. Any kinda pedal over 1/4 and it shutters your teeth out of your head. I really don't want to go with a re-build on this again. I have a 700r4 and was wondering what you guys thought of having it completly built. I have a friend who is freinds with a very well know tranny builder here. He is gonna try and get me a deal. I know the internals are the same as the 4l60e - the electronics, but I really am having problems with the electronics and my stall. The 94 pcm is pissing me off. I know some of you guys have built 700's..worth it or rebuild the 4l60e? Take in mind I will still have to deal with the PCM if I go back with the 4l60e.
thanks for any input

The shift point and drivability tuning with the 4L60E makes it the right choice. You already understand the hardparts are interchangable so why swap backwards on the valvebody.
1.7s are no big deal for a properly tuned OBD1 pcm, there are guys going faster without issue, fix that problem and keep the electronic tranny.

The car is not going to be a daily driver anymore, A hyundai will take its place, its going to be a Weekend, bracket racing car.
I have been thinking this over the past few hours and I think your right, the 4l60 is the way to go. just gotta get it built right....and then figure out this shift problem...

But that was another route I was seriously considering. TH350 with a nice stall.

just get taller tires for the street...
28" tires w/3.73..
65 = 3000 rpm
75 = 3500 rpm
edited....#'s listed are with 28" tall tires

Hell yeah if it's going to be a playtoy bracket car a th350 all the way and like pointed out above it will still be drivable enough to take to the track and back.

If you want serious abuse... (not to say the others can't take it) the TH400 has been a bad boy out of the factory. But I guess it comes down to who know their **** on building a tranny. I personally have never been a fan of the 700R4
