Default opinons on lt1 383

I been debating on this motor on ebay. I was told this motor can handle 550hp. It seems like a good deal for $2100. What do you guys think of of it?

The componants are less then impressive. I am willing to bet that the crankshaft, although Eagle, is probabley cast not forged. I guess it really depends on what your plans are for your car.

SPEED PRO Hypereutectic Pistons
Hastings Moly Rings
Clevite 77 Rod Bearings
Clevite 77 Main Bearings
Melling High Volume Oil Pump
Fel-Pro Lower Gasket Set
Durabond Cam Bearings
Pioneer Brass Expansion Plugs
Eagle 3.750" Crankshaft
Reconditioned LT1 Connecting Rods

Why not have your old block machined and order a stroker kit with the forged parts instead of using "reconditioned" parts. thats just short for "I was broke and couldn't afford to get new rods".

I would'nt go with that. I'm not a fan of "reconditioned" parts. The pistons arent all that.

I bought my engine from this guy. Works great

Not a deal.

Here you go...http://www.dyno-flo.com/index.php?pr=rotassemblies
Youre welcome.

________
Any on a side note, buying several 383 parts does not mean you have a 383 CI motor.
YOu can buy 383 blocks, and they aren't cheap.

Nice link

I would recommend the guy who started the thread to find out what parts people have who are running the way you want to run. Then find out what are the best out parts (mixed and matches probably) from those motors/people and build the best one you can afford.

Check out Golens 383's they seem reasonable. Plus there was a writeup about them in GMHTP. Ive heard nothing but good things about them.

Copied this from a thread on camaroz28.com. There is a huge difference in part quality in there to the previous ones you listed, but not that much of a price jump.

I went with Golens...and I was very happy...I had to swap out some parts being that mine was a 94...but you wont have that problem...I went with a somewhat custom 383...
