Default HELLLLP! Harmonic Balancer woes....

I have a 1995 Camaro with the LT12. I am trying to get my timing cover off, I have everything off except for part of the harmonic balancer. It has two pcs and the outer pully came off rel easy. The inner part that the pully mounts to WONT MOVE. I dont' want to heat it and potentially weaken the crank. Anyone run into this before? Any thoughts on how to remove it? ANY advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I am using a puller. It is threaded into the piece that the pully bolts to, I am using air tools and it still won't move.

The puller we are using has a threaded rod that is inserted in the snout. I have broken two of these pullers trying to get this thing off. This should be easy. I have done them before on other cars and it was a 10 min job. I'm stumped. I'm tempted to cut it off.

This is what You do... remove the bolt that treads into the snout. remove the thick washer then put the bolt back in and use the puller. I guarantee it will start to move right out, then You can wiggle it off.

We took the bolt and the washer out, do you need the bolt back in to help it along somehow? Not sure how having the bolt back in helps the cause.

The bolt is what the rod is using to push the hub off. Dont thread the bolt all the way in or the hub will stop were the bolt head is. I would only thread it about 2-3 threads.

So without putting the bolt back in you could run into excatly what we ran into? If so I'll try threading the bolt in and using the puller that way. Hopefully it works. I'm tired of breaking tools.. LOL (and btw a LT12 is a typo, geez.. )

One variation I read about and did to get the Hub off was, to take a 1/4 in LONG extension and put it in the hub after you removed the washer and bolt, then press on that so your not putting pressure on the threads.

Then, since you WILL probebly be asking "how do i put it back on?" well what I did for that is I took the hub and put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 min until it was well done, then I put a VERY small amount of lithium grease on the hub (pea size) and then to press it back I used the bolt that came out with a skinny washer and eased it on, it should go on easily do not force it on with say a pipe, cause something is probebly not sitting right.

I ended up buying the j-tool for removing and installing the hub. Also the first time I pulled the hub, I bought a hub from thunder racing machined for a woodruff key. The j-tool 39046 was kinda pricey, but I will own this car for a long time. I have already done a few cam swaps, so to me it was worth the purchase. Comes off and goes on with no fuss or possible damage from alternative ways.

if im not mistaken you arent supposed to screw anything in the middle of the screw hole... the other three bolts pull so while you crank the middle bolt down it pushes on the outer threads... it doesnt screw into it... thats to install it... kinda like the powersteering pulley remover.... i found that out the hard way.... if that makes any sense at all..... but the J tool is by far the best....
