I've seen similar problems on several different occasions, the coil is probably bad. So try changing that,it's cheap and pretty simple to do.

well wait... does it turn over... or does it only click ... or does it just sit and do absolutely nothing.... you could have a bad postitve and negative cable and the heatsoak is messing it up...or does the engine turn over but not start???

Mines did that EXACT same thing, I went nuts trying to find the problem, battery, battery cables and finaly took it to HPE and had Big Rick and GoldRust take a look, turned out my mini starter (CVR) I had was junking out, was a year old. New stock style starter and the problem was solved. Your best bet and I knwow you dont wnat to hear this but is to borrow a stock LT1 starter and see if it goes away. What my car would do is, after you drove it, turn the key and nothing, but you could see the battery gauge drop. My problem was the mini starter, they sound cool though Problem is if you pull the starter and have it tested it will come back fine since its cool. If the battery or battery cable is bad, when you turn the key, you should prety much loose power to every thing. Any Parts store starter carries a life time warranty, only way to go.

like some others have hinted at, we need to know exactly what is going on. This is important for everyone actually, as it will greatly reduce the amount of time needed to help.

Does the engine crank, but not start, or does the engine not crank?

well, I did already have (2) stock starters "reman" and I put the heat shield on each one. but when it got hot after driving for awhile you would try to start it and it would slowly crank. the second starter after driving and getting it hot it would bearlly crank and wouldn"t have anough of power to start.
this new starter worked great and after driving for awhile and it was hot outside 100*
I went to the store for about 30min then came outside I went to start my car and nothing, no click, nothing the gauge went down when you turned the key. the lights were bright and everything else worked, after about 15min later I tryed and it started right up. I also have a heat shield on this starter "power master high torque"

Oh when I rebuilt my motor I also put in a new accel coil

i would drive it and get it hot like you say and put a volt meter on the power wire at the starter... and when you start it see what the voltage is at the power wire and then see how many volts your getting at the relay wire... both should have about 12 volts to them... if not you have problems else where... if there is no volts at the relay wire then it could be a vats problem... but that should happen intermittantly whether its hot or cold...

Thats sounds good,
I'm going to hook up that wire this weekend
I was also thinking that if it acts up and won't start i'll use that wire to by pass my switch and start it like that.
I hate to think its my new power master high torque starter plus I even put a heat shield on it.
thanks for your help.
