oil

i just got my z28 not to long ago and i need to change the oil. How much does the egine hold oil wise? my dad has a 350 in his cutlass and his holds about 5qt so thats how much i put in. Is that good or do i need more/less?

I put 4.5 in then start the car for the engine to run through, then I CHECK the dipstick. I add maybe another 3/4 of a quart and I am above center of the cross hatches.

around 5. check the dipstick......

engine capcity should be 5 qts. I put 1/2 quart in the filter, and the rest in oil filler

Are you using an "old stlye" 1 qt. oil filter (PF 35 Delco), or the shorter (PF 25 Delco) filter? That will make a difference. And, as Buffman said, fill the new oil filter before you put it on the car. It helps get the oil pressure back up quicker.

I put in five quarts and then a 1/4 of a quart or so more. Its what I have always done, learned it from my dad never had any problems.

I dont really know what oil filter im using. Iwent to discount auto parts and said "I have a 94 z28 and i need an oil filter" the guy looked it up and gave me a Purolator brand filter with the number L20049 on the box. I dont know if that tells u anything.
